M4400 Downclocks :(

Time to get a refund like niceis i guess, no information at all since weeks on this issue.

 

Maybe A08 will tackle the lockupness monster.

i was wondering...how do you actually check the fps while your gaming? I haven't run into this particular issue yet as i haven't been doing any gaming lately. I do want to check if the problem exists on my system though so i'll be installing crysis to see what happens but still need to know where to check the fps...do i need to install some app to check it?

Getting a mobo replacement today because of a dodgy displayport connector!! Many issues with mine so far...but Dell service has been good up untill now. Could any of you post a close up pic of the spot where the screw of the bottom cover goes in the chassis? Without the lid on that is. After my first visit from the tech guys the screw couldn't get any grip on the chassis anylonger. We thought something was wrong with the screw but after receiving a new bottom lid with screw it still won't work and they're thinking the chassis has to be replaced!!

 

Hell...this is getting pretty bad.....LPT-LVR,don't think you need a pic mate,I think you need to bang it over your techs head for crossthreading the captive nut....if it won't screw in,he's stripped it....get them to give you a replacement......its night time now and my phone will take a crap pic in this light.

Download and start "FRAPS" before you start a game and it will display in game fps,you can also do a benchmark over a pre determined time and get max/min/avg fps for that time.

Just reeeelly notlooking forward to having my mobo replaced today and the chassis again on friday or something. Way too much hassle. If that is the case would it be better to go for a system swap? Though that might mean starting issues all over again...or new ones, who knows

Thing is that i only found out about the displayport i hooked it up to the 2709w that i got for 30% less because of the bad screen on my m4400....some problems have benefits

 

WOW...didn't know whether this problem existed in my sytem so i just played a bit of Crysis....about 5min of it!!!

With everything at medium, 1680x1050 (native is 1920x1200 but thought i wouldn't push it yet) it gave me around 16-20fps to start with which i think is terrible already but it dropped too 2-3 within 5mins.

Worst thing is the temp...both Nvidia system monitor and CPUID HWmonitor give me 105 celsius!!!! That's not even near safe anymore!!!

Glad i checked 'caus i'm getting a mobo replacement tomorrow and i'll show the tech what happens. when playing.

I know for sure that this problems didn't exist with earlier BIOS version (A02, A03) because i tries Crysis right away when the lappy arrived and though i didn't use fraps to check it was all running smooth on medium settings then.

hey guys thanks for this thread i used to think my m4400 was broken, but after some reading i realised that the problem of the 'gpu downclock' started happening after i flashed to A06. i play the UT3 demo on full settings and get around 40fps and then it goes down to under 8fps when the downclock occurs. the weird thing is the temperature readings.
I use SpeedFan to monitor my temps and when the downclock occurs the sensor reading instantly jumps from around 75'C to 97'C and stays that way. when i exit the game and wait for a reasonable amount of time it jumps from 97'C to 45'C which is its idle temp. This is really annoying and im awaiting A07 though if it annoys me enough i'll roll back to A03 like a few of you have recommended.

obviously the temperature doesnt go above 75 in my case and im sure yours too (no artifacts, etc. right?), but the sensor reading locks way off the charts until it unlocks.

Im using the T9400 with the 770m, so i dont have the processor to blame; i.e. the x9100 though the m4400 chassis is designed for a quad core cpu so even with a great cpu, there should be no problems.

 

That's useless, empty handed technicians are no good. You need to tell Dell now, so that they make sure the technician is equipped with GPU replacement parts & tools.
