does any one know if any e dock battery will work on the e7240 and e7440? X597C e dock battery for the e4200 can be had for cheap. And the 5-6 hours on mine won't be enough on my next trip.

That's a fascinating idea! I don't know the answer but the first thing to note is that the new E series doesn't have the places for the dock battery to clip on to so the battery wouldn't stay in place and you might need to break the hooks off the battery so that the connector will go into the port. Then there's the unknown aspect of whether the battery power contacts in the docking port on the new E series are active. If they are the same as the contacts that take power from a normal dock to supply the computer when docked then that aspect may be OK.

I don't know about that one, but I have a 97Wh dell battery that connects to the dock (model kj321) and it works fine with both e7240 and e7440. Only problem is due to the dock connector being toward the back of the laptop, the battery sticks out from the back. It's also bulky so I haven't used it much even though it feels good to see the "15 hours remaining" on the battery meter on task bar!

thanks for the info guys. Glad it works, it does look a little out of place and slightly unstable? Is it secure, I'd be worried it might be dislodged the wrong way and damage the dock connector.

Anyone notice any throttling on the e7440? Running something stressful like a 3d game for a few minutes will cause the i7-4600u to lock at 2.1ghz and the igpu locks at 200mhz for a minute or two. It doesn't seem to be related to processor temps, which are under 85c, and adding a cooling pad solves the issue. Ambient temps are quite high, so is it throttling based off some external sensor?

Well it definitely looks out of place, but not unstable at all. I don't think it will cause any issues with the dock but obviously this battery wasn't designed for these models.

My i7-4600U has gone through various benchmarks including 3DMark11 without any obvious problems although the temperature can get to around 90C. it could be useful if you run HWiNFO, enable sensors and see how the CPU package power behaves as well as watching the temperatures. Maybe you have got an exceptionally good cooling system (I've repasted mine without much beneficial effect) but the CPU package hits a power ceiling.

you guys can use intel xtu to modify the throttling and voltage pwr I think. Surprisingly mine has unlocked voltage so I just undervolt mine. No throttling issues but I use throttlestop. Also I have the cheapo i5 version.

The package power stays at 17.5w under load, then it throttles to 6-7w. Given that the problem was solved by a cooling pad I don't think the issue is power... HWinfo doesn't show anything unusually high, though intel PCH reports a max of 60c before throttling. Not sure if that's the cause.

I've tried messing with throttlestop and xtu but nothing I tried worked, except adding a cooling pad. This leads me to believe that there might be some hidden, defective temperature sensor on my machine.
