So I have a E7440 with a Dell 1601 wireless card on Windows 7 64bit, and cannot seem to get the bluetooth working.

The Dell Wireless 1601 802.11 a/g/n driver is installed and wifi works fine, but the only bluetooth driver installed is "Generic Bluetooth Adapter". None of the bluetooth driver download links I can find on Dell's website acknowledge supporting this model.

Anyone have a similar problem and able to find a working driver?

    Thanks!

I have the same 1601 card and bluetooth wasn't working correctly I think I did a combo driver install of the inf files from atheros for the bluetooth and the dell wireless lan inf for the wireless portion. It's been working flawlessly since. I posted it maybe 5 pages back.

yo so this is kind of a funny question. but does anyone have experience with the 7440 on the outlet? i found a scratch & dent version for $1019 - 1080p, 16 gb ram, 256 gb ssd, i7-4600u, and the refurb version is $1079. this seems absurdly cheap given that the online price for the same model is close to $2000. i bought two laptops from the dell outlet and don't remember them being this cheap. i thought maybe there was a supply flood that caused them to drop prices (this doesn't make much sense) or the system glitched (this makes less sense). both of these are unlikely, but if true, would represent a very big reason for me to buy asap. on the other hand, dell has been spamming my inbox with 25% off coupons every few weeks, so if this is the normal price for 7440 line, i should wait for the next coupon to hit.

There is no such thing as "normal" outlet prices; they vary constantly. My observation is that when they run coupons the pre-coupon prices tend to be higher. There is no guarantee that a 25% off coupon will make the final price for the config you want lower than it is when coupons are not running. Nor is there any guarantee that configuration will even be available in the Outlet when a coupon is running. $1019/1079 strikes me as a good price for that configuration, coupon or not.

Hi, new e7440 owner. I noticed that the right palm rest appears to be flexing and making noise. Is this common? I have the base e7440 w/o the thumb-reader. If I press the the intel sticker, the right palm rest makes a "creaking" noise. I see noticeable flex if I press the right palm rest edge. Anyone have similar experience? Anyone know how to fix - or just ask Dell to fix/replace?

    Thanks

I don't know if it is common, but I do have the same symptoms you described. It doesn't bother me that much though since I'm not pressing hard enough on that area during normal usage to make the creaking noise.

I was wondering the same thing about the outlet and if prices went up with a coupon. I have purchased several laptops via the outlet and am now looking at the 7440. For $939.00 you can get a 256GB flash drive; 16GB RAM and an i7 processor. That seems like a good price.

    Questions:

    1. Does one think the i5 to i7 bump is worth it - seems to be $100+

    2. Is it worth waiting for a coupon that may come out? Obviously another 25 to 30% off would be nice but not worth waiting if the starting price just goes up.....

I'll be upgrading from a 6430u with an i5 with non-HD display, with 8GB RAM. Seems like it should be a reasonable performance bump...

    Thanks for the input.

i5 dual cores and i7 dual cores performance differences are negligible. I have noticed this from arrandale, sandy bridge, ivy, haswell cpu etc. The only difference is when you go from a dual core i5 to a quad core i7. To me i5 low voltage and i7 low voltage are nearly the same.

That is a great price IF it has the 1080p display. Without it, meh. I personally wouldn't buy an E7440 without one of the FHD display options (non-touch or touch). For the same dollars, you're better off with an i5 and FHD than i7 and the cheap screen. And you can always add another SSD and more RAM later.
