Okay I got a latitude e7240 base model with core i5, 128gb ssd and 720p screen as gift when coming to university, and I run mostly engineering software such as matlab, mplab, NI labview on it, everything's working perfect till now. I like the feedback from the keyboard, and the way the hinge works, the screen can go open almost 180 degrees. I have a non-technical question, anyone found a fitting slim sleeve for this laptop? I am trying to find one to carry it around.

Congrats on the new laptop. I don't have a sleeve but I do have this bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction Come Bag Soon Colombian Leather Laptop & iPad Messenger - eBags Exclusive - eBags.com
It is amazing and fits like a glove. Although the bag is overall smallish, won't fit too much more than my laptop and tablet, maybe a small binder or manual/papers and some accessories. Definitely not good enough for a school bag with huge books.

    You could try this:

    or the official dell slipcase:

If e7440 comes with SSD (128GB), SDD always installed into mSATA? I just need to be shure that laptop has SATA + mSATA slots (SSD for system and HDD for data), since were messages that mSATA slot can be optional.

Even in laptops with SATA HDD there is a mSATA slot.

I'm thinking about picking up a refurb E7440 and was curious as to what is the typical SSD model that comes with these. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Mine came with a 512GB Samsung 840 mSATA drive (sm841 as per device manager) installed in the 2.5" bay in an interposer board which I relocated to the empty mSATA slot.

Does anyone's laptop have trouble coming out of hibernate? My plextor m5m 256gb in the mSATA slot, when it comes out of hibernate, it flashes from the Dell black logo to black about 4-5 times, sometimes it even goes into windows "recovering hard disk errors" screen for a few seconds, before returning to the windows login. The process generally takes the laptop about 20-30 seconds to wake up. on the HDD this didn't happen and I actually feel like it woke up from the hard disk even quicker, probably under 10 seconds. Originally I ghosted from the disk to ssd, this time I did a clean install from windows media to the SSD. Recovering from standby is almost instant, but hibernate takes a long time. This is really annoying me. Anyone know how I can fix this?

has anyone used both the e7240 and the e7440. I bought the e7240 1080p touch on an impulse and I've got an e7440 that I'm about to order also but my gf would probably kick me if I did. Now I've got to choose between the two and I've yet to touch either.

The dell rep had both here the other day. I have the non touch version e7440 and was suprised at how much thickness (couple mm) it adds to the screen. Anyway the 7240 was smaller overall but the weight difference only about .65lb they both felt pretty "dense" and hefty for their physical size. Personally I like this as it makes the system feel sturdy. Anyway I am happy that I got the 7440 for the extra physical screen real estate and high res. The trackpads felt the same as well as the keyboard/key size to me. However the 7440 includes rubber nub mousey which I use from time to time. The gesture/swiping support on this touchpad is just plain POOR. It is really comes down to just how you will use the laptop and how important the smaller size is to you to give in to some of the tradeoffs.
