Hmmm, I have the e6430 for work, and that keyboard seems solid to me. is the 7440 keyboard have as good of travel and springy-ness? Is it as clicky or does it feel more mushy?

Bummer about the palm rest. I could care less about fingerprints, but I dont like that soft touch material because my hands dont slide around as smoothly when typing and using the mouse. Sends chills down my spine when my hands move around on it. I know, weird, but it just doesnt feel natural to me.

Someone asked for an off axis/viewing angle of the E7440. This is the non-touch screen matte finished screen.

    Would Samsung 840 Evo fit?
just ordered a 500GB HDD model and I have a spared 840 EVO on my hand.

    Sounds like a driver crash.

From Dell community it seems 7mm will fit well. The 5mm HDD has some rubber piece on top but SSDs don't need those.

However, I'm more thinking of puttinga msata 840 EVO on in addition to the HDD.

Anyone upgrade the ram on these yet? Crucial says their ballasticx line PC3-14900 ram works in it, not sure if it's worth the upgrade or not. I am pleased I can get 16gb on this system, I was going to just try regular crucial memory pc3-12800 so-dimms and up it to 16, unless the fancy stuff has any difference at all.

even i7-4600u can only use 1600/12800. 14900 is going to be useless.

I upgraded to 16GB. Make sure you get low voltage ram otherwise it won't work!
