Bingo. I had avoided them because I was not using any of their features. I had no idea they had hardware devices associated with them, but in looking through the documentation that makes sense. But yes -- with those installed, I have no more missing devices.

    Thank you.

Now need to decide if they are more of a security risk and should be removed. :(

What are they ? (the devices, that is) I have an E6410, didn't install the
"Intel AMT SOL/LMC/HECI thingies" since I had no need for the functionality,
and have no unknown devices (apart from the Broadcom USH which I'll
just leave hanging since I don't want to install anything just to have the
    exclamation point go away).

    Glad to help!

I don't use them too, since they require enterprise-class (with enterprise-pricing) utilities to be able to put to use. I am not sure, but I think it enables network administrators out-of-band remote management of machines, but unlike "remote desktop," they can manage it even if it the machine is turned off or the OS is inoperable and things like that... (wikipedia article)

Even then, I don't like the exclamation point so install the drivers and forget about it. :) and I don't think it's a security risk whatsoever...

Left Mouse Click and scroll problem

Hi Forum - On my E6510 I sometimes face issue with Left mouse button and scroll. Like if I am on a webpage and try to scroll using left button it sometimes does not work. The button otherwise is functioning fine, I can double click, left click etc with it.

    Any ideas please!!

Has anyone tried physically removing their NVIDIA 3100m card and just running the computer with integrated graphics to improve battery life/heat? If so, what improvement did you notice in heat and battery life? Is it simple/possible to just take the video card out and pop it in if you plan to play games or use more 3d in the future?

Sturtz - I called dell asking the same question "How to remove NVS3100m?" and the tech support said it was not possible because the motherboard did not have the capability to make use of integrated graphics.

Mine was getting hot even while idling and it was because of NVS3100. I sent it back and got the one with Intel graphics.

The new one with Intel HD runs a lot cooler but I have not tested the battery life yet.

    Laptop are not desktop.
The GPU is soldered in on the mother board.
Battery life should be similar to Intel solution (minus, maybe ~30min). Nvidia GPU downclocks to minimum speed when you are on battery, significantly reducing heat and power consumption.

If you want as an alternative solution, you can install Nvidia System Tool (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.06.html). This tools allows you to downlock or overclock the GPU easily (basically you define teh speed, and the rest of teh software will figure out the voltages and multipliers to set on everything assuring a good job).
    - Create a new profile (let's say call it "minimum")
    - Slide the memory clock speed, shader clock speed and core clock speed to minimum. (this is safe as you are just slowing down the GPU (less power goes to the graphic card)).
    - Save the profile, and load it.
My signature has a tutorial on overclocking an Nvidia solution under a laptop. Do the same but slide the bars to minimum instead.

Now your GPU will be at minimum speed, reducing heat when you are plug-in. If you need more power, just load up the default profile, and it should be like nothing changed.

Like Goodbytes said, you cannot remove the Nvidia card. In fact, I've had a motherboard replacement and the video card got replaced as well, even though it was not necessary.

You can do as the user below you did, try to return it and exchange for a laptop with the Intel graphics.

How is the Nvidia card compared to the intel HD card. Looking to get a e6510 soon and still dont know which. Mainly surfing the web, watching movies, streaming movies via ps3, and solidworks. Wondering if the intel hd card will work out. Currently have a dell d830 with nvidia card and will do all i pretty much need to get done.
