I love Dell, but I hate Dell application bloat, so I always wipe and reinstall from the ground up, and did so on a new 6510 I just got.

Everything I need (I think) is working, but I have four unknown devices under "other devices":

Broadcom USH (this one I understand)
    COM3
    Unknown Device
    Unknown Device

I have installed most drivers that I knew I needed, e.g. WIfi, NIC, Nvidia, Bluetooth, Chipset and related 2, Ricoh memory, and touchpad, and the webcam central. Having SSD, I have turned off the free fall sensor in bios (not sure if it is really off, that may be one).

I do not have a WWAN card nor modem.

Again, the basics are working, not too worried, but am curious what 3 things I am missing on these last three. Any ideas, or how I can find out?

PS. So far I like it a lot; not a huge change from my E6500, but the SSD is MUCH faster.

Try downloading the ControlPoint Security Device Driver Pack (Note: This is the "Drivers," not the Control Point Security Application, which many people do not like)...

Good news! Dell only raised the price of the E6510 by $10 when it downgraded the base processor to an i3? In contrast, it now costs $20 more to buy a E6410 in the former base configuration.

Does anyone see an upside to an i3-370M processor instead of an i5-520M? Any advantages in cooling?

I did, installed them all, only the Broadcom USH went away. I tried a few combinations and found that just required the Control Vault to make it happy, so uninstalled the rest.

That left three "Unknown devices". Interestingly, the COM3 changed to "Unknown device" somewhere along the way, and an uninstall did not help (rebooting each time).

So with Broadcom USH fixed, I installed the free fall sensor driver, and that got one more. So I am down to two "Unknown devices". That is a bit disappointing, as I have it turned off in BIOS (since I have an SSD) and thought that would make it disappear.

Nothing else jumps out at me worthy of installing, or more importantly that does not seem to be working.

    Any ideas?

    Windows 7 x 64 bit Ultimate, by the way, 8G, 256G SSD.

PS. Machine is nice, stable and fast so far. Think I may regret the Nvidia card, since everything I read implies the native is fast enough and NVidia just eats power. But so far so good.

I've attached a screen shot of device manager SORTED BY CONNECTION TYPE to localize them as PCI devices. Any chance someone could do the same with a E6510 that has no unknown devices, maybe a comparison would give me a clue. And/or compare and just let me know which are different?

I realize I may have more or less devices, but it is a place to start.

I finally received two E6510s with FullHD screen that I ordered back in May. All my happiness disappeared when I saw the screen. It looks red-is even when it is black. Does anyone have similar issue. I called Dell and began to check replacement possibilites. But since both machines suffer same issue, I'm worried that even replaced screen would look similar.

Compared to my E6410 (ordered same day and I got it 3 weeks ago) the colors are much worse.

They have Intel GPU and in the management I'm able to decrease red level by about 10 % and it looks quite normally afterwards.

Since colors of LCDs change over time I wonder if it doesn't normalize itself after a while.

    Does anyone have similar issues?

    Thanks

    Martin

I have LG FHD screen, and absolutely love the screen. What are the manufacturers for your LEDs?

Mine was overly blue (a common problem with LED backlighting). Use a color calibrator to get your screen right.
