Usually this is happening because at some point the laptop comes out of sleep to switch into hibernate. You can disable this in the power settings and that will avoid the problem.

Personally, I've never seen an issue where my laptop comes out of sleep and stays on. The only issue I've seen is where the laptop doesn't go fully to sleep. The display is off and no input can be made, but the machine is still powered on and the hard drive may occasionally show activity. Usually this happens after I've installed a bunch of programs so I can't pinpoint the problem. It also happens inconsistently.

It's usually programs related to networking... There is an option in Windows and sometimes BIOS to disable this.

Another major cause of this are bad drivers. If all devices can't sleep, it won't be able to complete going to sleep.

    Question about eSATA.

Can I boot e6510 from a eSATA hard drive?

    Thanks!

Yes you can. Press F12 at boot, and you'll be presented with a menu to elect which device to boot, select "eSATA"

    Speaker Volume

Just received my E6510 and agree it is a well made machine. I notice that maximum speaker volume is not very loud. I checked the Volume Mixer and noted that Device and System sounds were at 100%.

Is this likely a mechanical problem or a driver issue? Anyone else notice this?

By way of comparison, my very old D600 now running Ubuntu Linux has very loud speakers.

Does it have a SATA or eSATA connector, and can the device is designed to be booted from, if so, than yes.

Try removing the IDT audio driver and letting Windows use its own HD Audio driver. That worked for me on the E6500 atleast. I assume it's the same on the E6510.
