Well at least it will not be like me for my E6400. I got it Monday, same situation as you , and the system had a big dent and needed to be shipped back for replacement, I had to until Friday until I get my system. It was like my nightmare had a nightmare... if that makes sense :).

But don't worry about it, I think you'll love your system the way I did for my E6400, and you'll just completely forget the whole situation.

    A couple more impressions:

Backlit keyboard is everything I hoped it would be, but I'm surprised by the amount of light leakage around the keys. Not a big deal, but a little distracting.

Also, in terms of build quality, this thing is definitely on par with the D820 that it's replacing (42 mos. old, shown in the pictures a couple posts back). I had my hands on an Inspiron (purchased at Best Buy) a few weeks back, and there is no comparison; this is a solid machine.

I am considering this laptop as a replacement for my D820 which has been my development rig for the last 4+ years.

Has anyone been able to test the battery life of the 6 and / or 9 cell batteries?

Also, has anyone seen a real review on the Net? All I keep finding are press releases.

    Thanks in advance!

There is an option in Dell ControlPoint - System and Devices to adjust the backlight brightness. Try about 50%. This will also save a little power when you are running on battery.

Why did you go with the i7-m620 instead of the QM version?

The macbook screen you compare it to... is it Glossy? or matte macbook?

Well it came down to a balance of raw cpu power and cpu battery power usage for myself.
The i7-m620 has the newer/smaller 32nm cpu die, the video is still 45nm.
The i7-m620 has max TDP of 35 watts as compared to the i7-720QM TDP 45 watts

Notebookcheck: Intel Core i7 620M Notebook Processor

    Notebookcheck: Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist

I am comparing this to the glossy mid 09 MBP, in mid 2009 apple in my mind leaped forward with their new lcd panels.
I am not a huge fan of the glossy screen, yet that is what i purchased, this new e6510 screen in my opinion has the same wow affect.
I normally always use matte screens as on our TP T400 and our HP elitebook 6930p.
This e6510 is leaps ahead of both.

    edit:
I am not a gamer, yet HD video editing & playback is a must.
The intel cpu integrated video works great and that tdp 35 watts max includes the video, therefore heat reduction & battery life should improve greatly.
Those that opt for the dedicated gpu likely are gamers and have to pay a cost as well.
It simply came down to a balance in my decision, as well as a great deal ;)

Hope so! This is my first Dell...I've had a Thinkpad T60, Toshiba M200 tablet, and the ThinkPad X61 tablet so far.
