Is it possible that bios has big influence on memory management in Windows? After last bios update I noticed that I have more free physical RAM then before update and less stand by ram (Resource Monitor). I use my machine the same way for hours on end. It's my subjective observation not measure. I'm just curious.

need help with switching from IRRT to AHCI on my E6510. I followed the instructions in the "billkil" link how to do it w/o OS reinstalling, however after registry modification for QM57 chipset and SATA mode change in BIOS I am still getting BSOD.
I am puzzled why it does not work for me when so many people had no problem with it.
When new I did clean W7 64bit install into SSD, however I forgot to change SATA mode in BIOS to AHCI. Now after I loaded tons of stuff I wish to change it w/o OS reinstalling.
Any idea what's the problem here?

The latter part of this thread includes discussion of the IRRT -> AHCI swap on the Exx10 models with Windows 7. Search there.

Thank SO much. For some reason in my case it didn't work exactly as described. After all registry mods, following restart with RAID to AHCI mode change I was always getting BSOD, so I coudn't applied last step to load SATA drivers.
But somehow I got it work when I install them prior to restart and BIOS change. Go figure...

I have a Latitude E6510 with Windows 7 64 Bit. I've installed all the DELL official drivers for this OS but the volume indicator that popped up in the bottom right corner with the volume was increased/decreased won't come up. I used to have Windows 7 32 Bit on this machine and that worked. Any one has gotten this to work ?

    thank you

The latest drivers puts it at the center of the screen (assuming you got the latest drivers form Dell website and not the provided disk, if any).

You may need to simply restart the computer.
If that still doesn't show it up, then you need Dell Control Point to be installed.
    Here: Drivers and Downloads

    Hope this helps.
