had a "live kernel event" with the NVS3100...not that hot (only 51C) and the driver crashed.

Dell didn't list any driver updates but when I tried to update it through the Windows device manager it stated that it installed new driver update software.

    thoughts?

If it's crashed once.. don't worry about it.
Go to Nvidia website, and get the latest drivers and install those. In the Nvidia driver setup, go under "Custom", and check the box to perform a clean install.

Nvidia uses a 1 drivers for all GPU's. All you need is to do is pick the OS you are using and if it's a mobile or not graphic card. Whether you pick the Geforce wtv model or Quadro wtv model, you'll get the same setup file. All you need is if it's mobile or desktop, and the OS correct.

Upgraded to Firefox 4; ever since the driver failure (since updated, seems ok) Whenever I'm on the Extended Battery Use power setting and I open the Bookmarks tab, it leaves a 'remnant' or a version of it where it intersected with the startmenu.

Kind of difficult to describe...I've attached an image to help explain...

If you look towards the bottom you can see where I moved the FF window and opened the bookmarks bar, and when it closes it leaves a 'stain' of the bar.

    Only on lower-power settings. Normal?

I strongly suggest to have Aero turned ON (see power options). Your Nvidia GPU is so powerful for Aero, that is stays at minimum speed (so consumes the same amount of power) whether you have Aero or Aero Basic.

I am not a fan of Firefox Hardware acceleration, (font rendering sucks). As most website as far form being html5 demanding, it's kinda useless.
You can turn off easylly in the options of Firefox. Firefox button > Options > Advance. From there, uncheck the box Use hardware acceleration. Now restart your Firefox (close all traces of Firefox and re-open it)

I understand and appreciate your feedback; I followed your directions.

My question remains - is this normal/typical?

Get the recommended Control Vault driver under Control Point section of Dell drivers.

I don't know if this is a Firefox issue. I always used Aero. I rarely used hardware acceleration of Firefox.
Please note that I use Nvidia web site latest drivers. I have Windows 7 64-bit.

Ok folks here is it. We have spent thousands of dollars on the E6510. We are wiping and creating our own image using Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. We have been having random freezes. When this happens our network ports. go into an error state and there is limited or not connectivity on the port. It needs to be reset by the networking folks which causes and outage to other machines on that blade. There is nothing in the event log to indicate why this is happening. I have worked with Dell on the order of the drivers and recently thought we had the issue fixed. But again it froze. Once is freezes a hard boot is needed. Then it will continually freeze sparadicolly. Very unstable system. By boss is at it's wits end with Dell. We also noticed that the E6510 has been discontinued after not even being out a year. Any ideas or suggestion is appreciated. This issue has been ongoing for months and we have thousands of dollars in laptops sitting on the shelf because they cannot be rolled out.

    Thanks

Repeating problem across multiple machine images suggests a persistent issue with the image... or your immediate network hardware. Seems odd that a host freeze would bring down network ports. The Intel LAN device and driver on the E6510 should be normal stuff. One wonders what all is in the image. Have you tried just a bare Win7 x64 installation on the LAN? Have you tried just a bare Win7 x86 installation on the LAN? Do you have other happy Win7 x64 LAN clients?
