GK I should rephrase this. We have frozen using images and fresh builds. I have tried building from the ground up using the W7 media. The issue is that it is sparadic and there is no common theme to why this is happening. Plus not having any indication in the event log does not help. We have not tried the X86 because we do not have the media for that. These are also WIMAX laptops. We have non-WIMAX laptops also that freeze.

Can you try the laptop at home for the week end... so that you are on a different network.
Are you using Win 7 SP1?

I can assure you that over several million of users are using Win7 64-bit, a possibly millions with this laptop with Win7 64-bit and no problem.

What if you disable the LAN and use wireless instead?

I would be curious to see if it is related to 64-bit lan drivers operating with your LAN.

Presumably you have tried connecting to different ports/switches and over different cables? Are they GB switch ports? Could you be driving your cabling at higher speeds for the first time and something is not holding up? Try a good cable connection at the switch port? Sorry if these are dumb ideas.

It would be slower, less secure, and less robust... not a good IT proposal.

Did you try using the standard Dell pre-installed version of Windows 7 to see if that gives problems? (I appreciate that this is not what you want to roll out but would help to pin down the source of the problem).

How far up? Does a bare Win7 x64 installation crash the LAN ports?

I'm not sure proving the WLAN would solve the LAN.

On another note, I've had squirrelly behavior when connecting both LAN and WLAN to a Linksys WRT54G. What does Windows do with 2 such simultanneous connections? I don't think they get bridged into one connection.

I wanted to see if it was a Windows network problem in general or LAN driver specifically.

I also suggest to see for firmware update on switches (if any) and routers, and apply them. I remember my Linksys router not liking wireless and wired connection of my laptop (often drop). A quick firmware update completely solved the problem.

I have tried other cables on other ports. The strange thing is that the laptop did not freeze for a couple weeks. Then once it starts freezing it continues to freeze and hoses the port. Then all of a sudden it will stop freezing. It even freezes when off of the wired network.
