I have the 1600x900 screen and I hate its poor vertical viewing angles. Mine washes out very quickly.

If you think it is abnormally bad then your can ask Dell to replace it. Dell uses displays from several sources and you might get a better one next time around. However, all normal LCD displays have limited viewing angles although you can see what is available by looking the the display photos in the NBR reviews.

Ok had the baby for almost 2 months now. Started to 'develop' a problem recently. Happened for the first time 5 days ago and then again yesterday.
While browsing in Firefox with a medium/moderate amount of tabs open and watching ONE youtube video the system freezes (no bsod) but video stops, browser locks up, no more mouse, task manager, anything ! AND the harddrive makes a constant 'whirring' sound, kind of high pitched but not, def loud and scary sound. I checked for excessive heat and nope, make sure the sound is from the hdd area and yep.

I have to power down by holding the power button down. Fresh reboot and all is fine for a few days, until it happens again....

    Experience ? Suggestions ? Advice ??

    Thanks

    Ok so things to consider:
1- One processor in your computer (CPU, Northbridge, GPU) is overheating
2- Motherboard has a manufacture error (could happen)
3- HDD has a manufacture error.

You can get AID64 (aka: Everest) (trial version is all you need): AIDA64 | PC Benchmark | System Diagnostics | Network Inventory, OR you can use HWMonitor (free): CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Get FurMark (free) and Prime95 (free), and run them togother. These are computer stress software. Furmark will push your GPU to the max, while Prime95 is stressing your CPU.
Monitor your temperature to make sure that nothing goes above 95C

If you don't have any temperature problem, then it could be your HDD, based on your description of the sound.

ok GB, ran them all, temps maxed at 72c

ran seagate disc diagnostics, dell diagnostics, both passed all

    everything seems fine

starting to think (besides maybe a faulty, ready to go hdd) .....

    *fresh install of OS

    *BIOS update - I have A06, there is a A07, but I don't think that's the prob

*mozilla firefox prob causing the crash.....

Yea, looks like. If you didn't get the HDD noise, then I would say it's the motherboard, but this sounds like the HDD.
Give a Dell a call (if it's the HDD that came with your system), and have it replaced.

well that's just it, it's not the one it came with, an upgrade i bought brand new
and installed myself, the original hdd is long gone

so a mobo defect would only do that on occasion ? causing the hdd to spin like
charlie sheen in a full relapse ?!

what do you think of firefox, os install, etc. probs ?

even if i thought (and dell) it might be the mobo wouldn't they have to diagnose
    it at the depot ??
