I didn't say it won't run, I am saying that you are waisting them faster. And your not taking full advantage of your system, let alone your SSD's.
No can predict how much that XP and previous unsupported OS might reduce SSD lifespan. It might broke or lose sectors/chips next years like it can be simply a year less of what it was designed to last, opr heck even a month less. But I would not happy to fall into a day where I lose all my data, let alone the uber expensive SSD. SSD's are too new, and currently everyone that uses is kinda part of the experiment.

My experience suggest for the best computer experience, don't use a hardware with things that it was not designed for. For instance, when the new ATX2 standard was released, you know the motherboard plug that went form 20pin to 24pins.. some people, instead of upgrading their PSU with their new motherboard, they used an adapter. This cause for many, especially on system that requires a lot of power, to overload the PSU which results in sever system stability issues, and "random" system shut-down under load. This is of course, only one of many examples.

    Hello!

I have a big problem. I have recently bought a DP to Hdmi adapter but I can not get the sound to output to my HDTV. I searched through all the threads but could not find a way to make it so that I can select "High Definition Audio Device" in the sound menu. I simply do not have the option as in the picture. I tried to install the latest nvidia driver but still I do not have the divice listed in the device manager.
    Please help me.

According to the Casper user manual (page 8)
This strongly suggests that your "backup" disk only need to be larger than the space used on your current HDD.

If you buy Casper then there's the option to get an ISO file to create a bootable CD. Or you can install and run Casper from within Windows.

Yes, you will need a USB or eSATA enclosure. I recommend eSATA because it much faster (I recently did a backup of my 256GB SSD in less than 30 minutes). And having got the enclosure and Casper you can periodically do full disk backups to your old HDD in case of misfortune.

The drawback of Casper is that is not very cheap ($50). However, you get a very reliable software package. It has worked for me where Acronis TrueImage would not.

Casper has a trial version, that's what I plan on using for now. If I like it, I'd purchase it for future use.

Hmm.. I got an eSata to SATA cable. I conected SSD to SATA interface and eSATA to E6400. But nothing happened (nothing was detected). I am guessing SSD also needs some sort of power and it's not getting it from eSATA cable alone. Not sure how to go next.

No power is sent on eSATA or SATA. Your drive requires power to function. That is why you need an enclosure.. so that you can give your HDD/SSD power, to make it function.
Unlike USB, eSATA is used exclusively for data transfer and not power up a device.

The E6400 supports power over eSata - you just need a cable that supports power over eSata. no need for external power.

esata actually can be powered, although I am not sure that the port on the e6x00 machines is a power over Esata port. Anyone know for sure?

can you provide a source on the e6400 providing power over esata?

That is not eSATA... This is using the combo port (eSATA + USB in one).
It grabs the power of the USB and eSATA data transfer. Some HDD's (and some SSD's not designed for laptops), like the ones on desktop's won't have enough power to be powered by the mentioned plug.
I too can create such plug to power a desktop HDD... have eSATA and 4 (random number) other USB's of your system to provide enough power to power a desktop HDD.
Here we are talking about eSATA and only eSATA, no special plugs. If it works for you.. great! But it might not work for everyone. I don't like recommending unsure things. But it is very good that you brought this on the table, and glad to hear people experience with this type of connector.
