Press Fn + F4 to disable NumLock, which will make the letters keys with number produce their mark number instead of letter.

This varies on how your Windows is configured. You can do Fn + a letter key with the number on it, and it will do the number when NumLock is turned ON.

ah, thanks. that doesnt work when numlock is disabled. but when its enabled the fn + letter key works. the top row of numbers besides 5/6 still dont work. A *little* bit of water spilled on the keyboard but this morning i logged on fine, everything worked. then after i put it to sleep and tried to log in again, it wouldnt work. weird

Ah crap... Yea that is why they don't work.
I would remove the keyboard, put it under direct sun light in the morning (behind your windows is fine), and when you come back home after the sun is not there anymore, your keyboard should function. If not, then you are kinda screwed. Please don't do like my friend once... he used a hair dryer pointed (even touch) the keys.. all the keys around it melted.

If the keyboard doesn't work the second day after direct sunlight, you can try another day after that... but if that still doesn't fix it.. then I think your keyboard is d0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000mmmed. :(

Upon examinating the keyboard, once, I don't think you can open it up and dry due to the 2 player sheet stick together. You have the white one on the back, and another one at teh inside.. porbably to spread the backlit evenly or something. I didn't dare to remove it of course.

Now, about the NumLock.. for me it behaves as it should under Dell Vista 64-bit, but under Win7 64-bit it behaves like you. I dont' know if it's a driver related, or that there is a configuration in Windows that has been done on the Dell special Vista disk.

Is Dell's mail in Warranty pretty bad that folks are recommending NBD onsite? Do they make you pay for shipping? I don;t mind waiting 2-4 days without a laptop.

I have been very happy with HP. should i expect comparable service from Dell. If so in which ways from Dell mail-in service.

I would rather say that people (including me) recommend Dell's NBD because it is fantastic. Dell never once backed out of a needed repair, and even replaced a new screen because of a stuck pixel! :)

I manage tons of dell equipment from laptops to servers, and I couldn't imagine not have onsite NBO (on non servers) and 4 hour service on servers. I had a client with an acer laptop that had return to depot and it was a mess, they were without the laptop for a week, and all the shipping back and fourth, scary stuff.

You do not need to pay shipping for Dell's mail-in warranty. Dell ships an empty padded box out to you using Overnight. You pack your laptop into the aforementioned box and ship it out to Dell using the included shipping label. Dell also pays for shipping back to you.

I just have a quick question to those that have a new Dell Latitude E6400. Does the battery stick out of the laptop as shown in the picture?
