    I have a battery question.
The Latitue E6400 9-cell 84WHr slice battery is rated 14V, while the normal 9-cell at 85WHr is rated 11.1V. What does the extra voltage offer?

Anyone have a problem with the paint on the speaker coming off? Mines has started peeling on the left side. The right side is perfectly fine.

EDIT: Never mind. I did some looking and found out I'm not the only one. Dell is sending the part and a technician will replace it next week. I had to chat with 2 reps to get one that didn't believe it was a cosmetic problem.

Not their fault. They are trained to respond like that. But if you play with your words or state the obvious like "I don't sand paper my speaker grid" (well said nicely), they'll do it.

If you wonder why it's like that, it's because it's consistency. A good business is one that no mater who you get on the phone you get the same answer. It's not always the case, of course, because they are millions of problem and everyone explains and understand differently, but that is the layout.
It's just so that you have Mr. X going "I have a scratch on my 2 years old system on the lid", and have Dell replace it, and he calls again next week, and complains about another scratch somewhere else and get the no no answer. Or let's say you have a problem, you don't want one tech to say something and someone else say something else (assuming both fully understand the same thing, with the same explanation).

Anyway, what you are facing is normal, you won't find a company that does the contrary. At least Dell allows their tech support employees to use their brain, and not be a automatic machine.

Another reason why you have to play with your words, is that I don't know if you notice, but at every time they needs to place an order for parts, it needs to pass approval. So you need to provide information to them (as they can't lie), that favors you, so that they repeat the same thing to the approval person.

My e6400 atg is perfect aside from:
-a few crack sounds on the palmrest area when i press on one of them
-the touchpad that is sensible to the pressure around it so if a finger is close to it, it will move the cursor too fast, if i let it rest for a few seconds it will come back to normal, and it lags. If i could fix the touchpad id be very happy, but i think thats how Alp's are

It was a very inspired decision to buy it.
What do you think of your notebook?

I want in the future a Mushkin Callisto Deluxe 120GB SSD, to make it faster.

Hi, i am the new guy.

Just got my hands on a Latitude E6400.
I am planning a few upgrades, like a mini-pci-e SSD, usb bluetooth, gps and maybe some other strange things.

Just changed HDD and Ram, added a BCM HD mini-pci-e Card.

My Latte' has no Fingerprint-Reader and no Webcam, is the fingerprint-reader a basic usb device, or something special? Otherwise i have to use the USB cable which is intended for the webcam, but unfortunately it ends behind the screen, about half height.

    thank you
    Michael

I'm pretty sure you can't install a mini-PCIe SSD in the E6400. Rather, you can install it, but it won't work.

I do believe the fingerprint reader is a USB device, and there's a ZIF connector on the motherboard specifically for it. I suppose it's possible to mod something in there, but I'm betting it's way less trouble just to buy the "right" part.

The issue with the internal bluetooth is that i want to use WLAN, WWAN and SSD, so there will be no slot left for the bluetooth module. So then it will be bluetooth instead of webcam.

why should a ssd not work in the e6400? i searched a lot in the forums, and found no one actual trying it. Maybe i just order one and see what happens.

A regular SSD will work fine, but the E6400 doesn't have the circuitry to support PCIe SSDs. At the very least you won't be able to boot from it. Maybe this has changed now, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't... though someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.
