This can help. I believe the PCI-e slot used by the E6400 motherboard should be the same. If you can give me that info I'd appreciate it.

John, your info would be even better as that way I'll be absolutely sure it's a similar setup to mine.

When you say keyboard not working....do you mean it wasn't working at all? or the back-lighting wasn't working? My backlit keyboard hasn't worked properly for the majority of the 15 months I've had my E6400. The motherboard was replaced about eight months ago after two keyboard replacements failed to fix the issue. The palm rest and a speaker grille were also replaced at the same time as the motherboard. In less than a month, the backlight was dead again....

I've just been sorta pretending that I don't have the backlit keyboard option and it doesn't bother me too much (most of the time), but I want to get it fixed....how many motherboard replacements did it take to get it right on yours?

he was wrong (or at least, according to dell, they don't have a separate part for the feet). it is such nonsense. on the lat dxx0 series, you could just get the rubber. it is such an environmental waste (not to mention time) to require the entire base be replaced for rubber feet (especially when it just keeps happening!). it is a design defect (though, all things considered, i still love my e6500).

if i AM wrong (and they have changed their policy on this, PLEASE let us know).

Wow. My backlit keyboard has been working great and the backlight is on excessively. You should try asking for a replacement keyboard again and if that doesn't work, I would ask for a new system. Not having a keyboard work properly after multiple replacements and a motherboard replacement is just ridiculous.

I've heard from several sources that they finally got this "bug" resolved in the motherboard design a few months after mine was replaced. I feel pretty confident that another motherboard swap will take care of the problem once and for all, but it's so hard to set aside 7-10 business days that I can survive without my E6400! They actually did the previous MB swap and had it back to me in only five business days (from the time I dropped it at FedEx until it arrived back at my front door)...I was impressed with the quick turnaround, if not the repair itself. :p

It's definitely not an issue with the keyboard itself. I installed my keyboard in my dad's E6400 and it lit up like Vegas, so the problem is more complex...

I'm not too worried about it, just need to force myself to let go of it for a bit to send it to be fixed. Now, if they replace the MB again and that doesn't take care of it for good....then, I'll have to show them my fangs (venom and all)! :D

    Hi guys,

My E6400 screen is wobbling slightly. I'm pretty sure it didn't when I got it, so I'm planning to tighten the screws as mentioned here a few times.

Could someone direct me to the specific steps in the E6400 manual? Is all I need to do here or are there more steps I can't think of?

You guys were right, I got the entire base.

Keyboard does feel a little bit different. Seems quieter, maybe a bit more cushioned keys.

Got the new HDD and power supply as well. Gotta love couriers.

Great news. You should replace the palm rest though... the technicians that came over to place my base had a hard time removing the palm rest which lead to a new palm rest. Stupid plastic snap technology. The up side from getting a palm rest is that your laptop will nice and new, without any stickers and stuff.

After a further look, I know why Dell sends a new base. It is because the pads are in 2 parts, one a plastic part that is supposed to be super glues with the rubber pad, and the this assembled part is melted into place on the base. The glue used is a stick once type of glue, once removed it doesn't stick anymore. so you can't transfer it to another pad. PLUS, it seams that the pad is kinda has an attach system with the plastic part.. like if they used ultra sonic procedure or something to have the plastic and rubber part attached together.

All all this fancy menchy super attach technology(TM) from Dell, is no real match. All it does is that it prevents pads to be easily replaced.
