    Hi guys,

Can someone with an ExpressCard product plug it into their E6400 and see into which port it shows up under Everest? See this picture for an example.

Ideally, if you could do that and post a similar image, it would be great. I need this info to know if I can do a x2 link to get an external video card working. See the DIY ViDock thread for more info.

The reward is simple: apart from the +rep, if I manage to get a DIY ViDock working I'll share my experience here at NBR. You all will get a step-by-step guide to how to get a desktop video card working through the express card slot.

    Thanks in advance!

Ah, after a very brief (not much more than 10 minutes) online chat with Dell support, I have a new harddrive, new keyboard, new AC adapter (functioned fine but the light on the plug was getting worn looking, all cracked and stuff), and new rubber feet on the way to my house for me to install. Excellent support guy I dealt with, I think he was based in Alberta. I didn't have to do any convincing, just confirm my address and that I was the purchaser of the machine and he put an order through to send out the parts.

    Excellent.

I think you'll get a laptop base. I recall when I asked if he will send a simple pad or a new set of pads or a laptop base in one question (expected answer: "just 1 pad", "all pads", "laptop base"), the tech guy answered "yes" as an answer. :) So he did not know, and I ended up with a laptop base, as mentioned previously.

Tell me what you get, I am curious. :D

Yeah. I asked specifically and he said it would just be the rubber feet. We will see.

Edit: So I just did a discharge/recharge. RMClock says that the fully charged capacity is 47231mWh, with the designed capacity of 57720mWh.

However, when the battery has been left and fully charged, it reads at times as having 57720mWh of capacity remaining with 122% capacity. Has anyone seen this before? I don't know if it's an error or what.

I see the same type of info. I don't know the cause (whether RMClock or something else - perhaps when charging stops something assumes that remaining capacity = designed capacity) but the fully charged capacity is the number to look at. That 122% is designed capacity / fully charged capacity.

This actually isn't limited to just E6400 or even E-Series batteries; I've seen it happen on various Dell batteries from D600s to E1505s. Dunno if it's a problem with RMClock or just Dell batteries in general.

I can check this when I get home on Saturday, if no one has answered this question before then.

    Hi There!

I have MS Excel 2003 crashing when I press the close box. Is anyone having this problem with their E6400 ?

It's like this: no matter how many files i have open, if i close the application it just crashes and i end up losing non-saved information because it doesn't even show the "do you want to save your changes?" window , but if i close open files and then i close Excel afterwards everything goes OK.

both my XP and Office are up-to-date and the only help i got from Dell tech support is to re-install the application - which i have done 3 times already and the problem persists.

any help would be appreciated! thanks!
