new TPM firmware and dell security device driver packs. I assume DCP security manager (wave) to follow.

    security drivers v. 1.4.050, A15
    & firmware 14.x.118.0, A15
i'll update if they release newer DCP security, as expected.

    update -- DCP released :

note :: in case anyone was wondering, the program still sucks, and the fingerprint reader still isn't accessible by win7 as a standard biometric device...

    Hello everyone!
I've had it all working but suddenly (after n-th soft/BIOS upgrade?) I discovered my E6400 doesn't like my passwords anymore. I know what it sounds like; either as if I had forgotten them (maybe, but BOTH at the same time?) or as if the notebook is stolen (which is is NOT). Well, at least I have working BIOS user password and my fingerprint in the system.
After a long while online with Dell support they told me that there may be a way around BIOS user pwd, but not BIOS admin pwd. Haven't inquired about TPM yet....
So it seems like the only way (if I HAVE to get it back to work) is the hardWARE way, that is a new MB. Unless someone knows otherwise (sorry, if it's against forum rules  )

Can someone please help me identify what exact MB do I have?

That is why I don't use BIOS password. On a desktop PC, you can remove the motherboard battery (including the laptop battery and power cable), wait 10 seconds, and put it back (all BIOS settings should be cleared - even the system time will be lost).

    It's a try.

Doesn't work on Dell laptops. Have tried it several times on several models. You do lose "unimportant" settings like the system time, but not security-related stuff like passwords.

If you replace the motherboard, just make sure you get another Intel board if you have the Intel GPU. If you have the Nvidia board, you can use either boards without changing anything; the Nvidia heatsink will work on the Intel board, but not vice-versa. You don't need to get caught up with the part numbers and such.

Provided I have the MB, can such swap be done without loosing the warranty (or by Dell with my part provided)?
The refurb MBs Dell sells are insanely expansive...

Are you sure you can't pass your problem under your laptop warranty? I mean it's because of the BIOS update that your password got changed, and you can't log-in anymore, it's entirely Dell's fault for miss testing their product. If such even could occur, no where it says that you need to remove the password before updating the BIOS.

Agreed...don't ask them if they can help, TELL 'em it's their fault and they should fix it.

there is absolutely no way that dell won't help you out if you can prove ownership (i assume it is actually yours). they may need to replace your mobo, but you wouldn't have to buy a new one.

not an entirely appropriate use of the forum, but i have some more wave invites to give away if anyone wants one. i also especially need a voice invite for my girlfriend. priority to anyone willing to trade, and ill give 5 away total.

and send me a pm, don't flood the forum.

to clear up GB's confusion -- wave is short for google wave. (wave.google.com) voice is short for google voice. (voice.google.com)
