Have you looked at ThrottleStop? I don't think there was ever an official fix...

Hello. I am a new owner of a dell e6400 with a intel video card. Recently i noticed a screen flicker in the lowest brightness setting of the display while on battery. I have tried several video card drivers until i noticed the flicker alos in the bios. Then, i was sure yje problem lies in the bios. The laptop came with A19 bios and i upgraded it to A34. But, after i have seen the flicker i thought i should update the bios firmware one at a time, so i did: A19-A20, A20-A24, A24-A25, A26-A26 and so on until the final one, A33 to A34. I still see the flicker. Now i am running A26 bios due to the improvements that says: 6. Minimize dimmest LCD brightness value for E6400 XFR. Althought it is for xfr, it seems to be flicker free, but i have not tested it enough. What can i do to get rid of the flicker on the lowest dim on battery?
    Thank you very much!

When you say you have tried several drivers. Have you looked up what type of video card you have and installed the correct driver from support.dell.com?

Of course. E6400 comes with 2 video cards: NVIDIA® Quadro® NVS 160M5 256MB DDR2 and Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. I have Intel and currently installed 8.15.10.2869 driver version.

I think there is a setting in the Intel drivers which slightly dims or brightens the screen under certain circumstances... have you tried looking for/messing with this setting?

I do not know about the setting you reffer to. The think that worries me is the bios flicker. I have seen the flicker in the bios aswell, this is why i asked about the bios. If there is flicker in the bios it means is independent of the windows drivers.

I would think maybe the LVDS cable is having a fault somewhere.

You can run the built in diagnostics. I think you push F12 when you boot up and in that menu should be something related to on board diagnostics.

I have run the pre boot on board diagnostics. It found no problems. Although, it did not run lcd brightness test. It said UNAPPLICABLE. I do not know why.

I suspect this is due to the fact that i ran it on battery, not on AC.

I run the pre boot diagnostics on AC and still it did not run the lcd brightness test.
