I decided to try a variation on the copper mod. I didn't have any AS5, so I used generic heat sink compound, and I replaced the copper with a piece of clad metal I cut from a thick slot cover take from the back of a PC. My gpu is ~45c at idle, and topped out at 68c running 3dmark. Cpu ran from 33c to 62c in the same test. Interesting test. I am sure that things would be a little better with AS5 and copper, but considering I was working with what was laying around I was happy enough. Temps dropped back down quickly after the test too.

Sorry wizardknight, was a bit busy and didn't check back here.

The multiplier is stable now, happened just the first two days or something.
Temperatures themselves seem to jump around a bit more than before.

My GPU is about 10-15°C colder than before, CPU stayed basically the same.

The newest A32 BIOS downclock the GPU from 580Mhz to 500Mhz, and Shader from 1450Mhz to 1000Mhz. The new Max Voltage Current has come down from 1.170V to 1.090V.

I used GPU caps viewer program, as well as HW Monitor.

The notebook is definitely quieter, but at a cost of GPU performance hit. Also, you cannot overclock
the GPU anymore. Any changes to the speed at Nvidia control panel has no effect on the GPU.

That Shader downclock is almost a 33% decrease!! So, Dell chooses a cheap solution (thermal pad instead of a proper metal-to-metal contact), and then downclocks the GPU to disguise that??

This is outrageous. My warranty will be over in 3 months, I'm going to purposely overheat my GPU and ask for a new one, and then copper mod it.

    Thanks for the heads-up Forex!

Ah, damn. They are downclocking our gpu. Sigh, and right after I upgraded to A32. So can we downgrade back to A31?

    Edit-
Never mind. I just downgraded to A31. I would attach the file here for others, but the max file size is ~600k. :p

Tempting, but half the time what you get as a replacement is worse than what you started with. Dell's referbs suck, and there is no way to force a new part out of them.

    Then I'll just mod it.

When I bought my e6400 it came without a docking station/port replicator. As I only paid $80 for it I can't complain. However I have been thinking it might be nice to have one. What kind of prices have people seen them selling at?

Downgraded from A32 to A31 and the WEI went down in graphics from 4.1/3.4 to 4.0/3.4. Negligible.
