Hi COF, can you help to check in which country your E4300 is made?

    Thanks for posting that.

1.8kg, fan noise, average screen. Not impressive.

I wonder what E4200 is going to weigh in reality.

well now that ram is cheap and plentiful, it doesn't seem like this would be a problem. Vista regularly uses more than 1.5 GB of ram by itself (for me), but I have 3 GB, so it's not a problem nowadays. if you think this is bad, then try a clean install and see which programs you need or don't need and only install ones you need.

Although Cof will have the final word on this, I would think it is extremely likely that his laptop was assembled in Limerick, Ireland, considering he is an Irish customer and Ireland is the centre for Dell's manufacturing for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

    Pathetic default install :(
I perfectly agree with your disappointment. It's so hard to understand that a clean, optimized and fast Windows setup give the best experience and the best satisfaction ? Or these guys working at Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony never use their products ?
One of my friend got a Vaio few weeks ago and it was even worse then this dell with tons of bloatware, trialware, crapware. Very slow machine for the specs (2.5Ghz centrino 2, 4GB RAM and 7200 HD). After a fresh windows install, everything was so fast that it was like a new computer !

Hi chjhuang , the packing slip that came with the notebooks says Dell Products, Raheen Industrial Estate,Raheen, Limerick Ireland so it looks like that wikipedia link AnyBurns sent is right.

Apologies one all about the subpar photos they were taken very quickly with a camera phone.

Very quickly before I go to work when I boot the notebook into the bios the electronic noise goes away.

I wonder if the constantly flashing hard disk light and the electronic buzz are related ?

I'm loathe to open the notebook to have a peek to see if cable or connector is loose but failing that or NBD support call the only thing I can do here is try and disable some hardware in the bios or the os and see if that has any effect.

Will post more updates this evening.
