What display brightness did you use for the DVD playback?

I recall that my E6400 could just about manage 3 hours of playback at around 1/4 brightness and without wifi, etc.

    John,

The default level 7 out of a possible 14 according to dells power manager.

I've disabled everything in the msconfig startup tab as well as the intel matrix storage event monitor service which may have helped a little.

I notice you're E6400 config is Windows XP. Whats the task manager commit charge ?

    OK, so mid brightness.

I'll have to look into the matrix storage event monitor. What is it called?

My current commit charge is 1492M / 5791M, but I have several applications open including google Earth (475M) and Firefox (200M).

So 4 hours running DVD, means about 5-6 hours with regular office tasks.

If you have IAANTMon.exe running then the "Intel Matrix Storage Event Monitor" service is running.

There are various forums on this and other sites that discuss it at length but you might find the link below to Intel a good place to start.

I don't know about the this specific laptop, but my brother XPS M1210 has a 9cell battery (~7hours of battery life, 4200RPM, 1GB of RAM, WinXP). the battery sticks out big time, and it feels lose, however from all the years he used it (and he does use it everyday), it never causes any issues. Personally I think it's made on purpose so that you change the battery easily. So I would not worry for that.

I am about to get me laptop from Lenovo or Sony for my 13.3".

Why is the E4300 still so expensive?
