A large portion of the European Dell websites seems to be down at the moment. Being updated with the upcoming systems (e4200/e4300/Inspiron 910/M6400) perhaps??

The site was also down yesterday morning and, when it came back up, the backlit keyboard and the slim PSU options for the E6400 had disappeared.

The E6500 and E6500 appeared on 12th August without the site going down. The new pages get built in the background and then a few pages are updated to include links to all the new products.

i'm crossing my fingers for new pricing on the 4th and a match by dell for a better deal.. if not, just won't be as cheap, but still a killer laptop :)

Is the quality the same between Dell's memory sticks and third party versions (e.g., NewEgg)? Will this void my warranty? How do I know which memory stick I need (I want 4 gig of ram)?

it will NOT void your warranty. it is EASY to do. and the quality of third party vendors is probably a great deal better than dell. newegg is not a vendor, they are a reseller. just check reviews of the ram. pqi, kingston, crucial are all good. if you want 4 gig of ram you want 2 2GB sticks of PC2-6400 RAM (assuming you are talking about the 6x00 or 5x00 models). you want low latency, so get CAS latency of 5.

edit -- note john's clarification -- he is right on.

Just to clarify, PC2-6400 200 pin SODIMM such as this. Otherwise you might get desktop RAM.

indeed -- good clarification. I neglected to put it because if you buy from newegg, you just click laptop ram and avoid the confusion :p -- Hope that is helpful :)

Do you guys happen to have a direct link to the RAM I need (4 gig for E6400 laptop)?

Are there some instructions available somewhere that tell me step-by-step how to install this?

Also, are there any other DIY upgrades that you would recommend besides the RAM that would cut the price of a new E6400?
