any suggestions for me guys? I just found out I have ridiculous discounts available to me on Lenovo purchases. I can pick up a fully loaded X300 or T500 (even with a bluray burner) for hundreds less than the E series models. I like the Dell Lats, but I am not sure that it is worth the price increase.

IMHO, the Latitudes' killer feature is the dual-DVI/Displayport ports on the docking stations.

Other than that, it's pretty much a toss-up between them and any of the other major brands.

Sure, though I don't know how useful this comment is...

But I love the new E series!

The way Lenovo handled the launch of the T400/T500 really turned me away from getting one. Their configuration pages had incorrect and misleading information on it, and it took them more than a week to get some of it straightened out. Now, I realize that website people != design and construction people, but I found it rather unprofessional. I was also rather annoyed that the specs given were not the specs released on launch day. They may have straightened everything out now, but at the time, it really turned me away from them, in general. It appears this concern was valid, as the reviews of the actual T400/T500 are good, but not on par with previous Thinkpads.

Now, with that being said, I went with Dell because the Thinkpads use DDR3, which is expensive and offers little benefit currently. Also, I didn't like the offset screen (which will annoy), and the seemingly ugly look of the system in general. Yes, I know that the looks of the system aren't important, and the actual strength of the system is really good, but if I'm going to invest $1500+ in a nice business laptop, I want to be able to show it to people without hanging my head. Also, I don't remember for sure (it has been a month ago), but I think that the Thinkpads didn't come with a 3 year warranty standard. Finally, I have a Dell auto/air/ac power supply from my I8600. The M2400 can use that supply. Cha-ching.

Hey folks, I just got the new Dell SMB catalogue... it claims the E6400 is going to start at 849USD on September 4th... does anyone know if I can expect the upgrades to still cost about the same? Or is this just a ruse to make the upgrades more costly and therefore have the potential buyer pay the same amount...

I don't know...but if that is the case I'll definitely be able to get a price reduction :D.

Could you upload a scanned image?

Interesting...that drops the base price by about $260

I'll keep an eye out for that one, and be prepared to ask for a similar reduction in price on my configuration still in the order queue. If they don't match I'll just cancel and reorder the same exact configuration.

Marketing probably decided that the T400 was priced too low WRT to the E6400 and are trying to compete.

Typically, Dell will continue to charge the same amount for upgrades...so I imagine they'll just end up reducing the overall price per configuration.
