I am in need of a new laptop for school. From what i have read, the new e series 6500 will come out the 12th. Does anyone know how true that is?

Maybe if you wait for 4 days, you will find out yourself. :) Just remember to factor in 2-4 weeks for building and shipping, so that you can get your laptop in time for school.

Anyone else wondering how thick it is? The pre-release info said 1.1" was the goal. It looks to be 1.2-1.3" front and back. I was hoping Dell could finally give us a 13.3" laptop, full speed proc, and integrated optical drive under 1.1". Sony Z is close at 1.0" front to 1.3" rear.

The XPS 1330 in the comparison photo was the CCFL (thicker) version, so comparing it to the LED version would be less favorable.

Quoting the front thickness and omitting the huge backside is a pretty annoying marketing tactic (read: Dell XPS and Sony Z). The Latitude E's avoid the slope leading to thickness in back, but seem to have missed the goal altogether.

Related to my thickness rant, it looks bulky enough that I highly doubt it will make its weight target either. I'm guessing closer to 4 pounds which is unexeptional for a 13.3".

whoa... is that a middle mouse button I see there? or a fingerprint reader? If its a middle mouse button I can finally dump the thinkpads.

edit: it's still very unfortunate it doesn't have HDMI

edit2: maybe a different style trackpoint cap too.... I'm a big fan of the "soft rim" type rather than the dome type.

fattire: any chance of close up pics of the trackpoint / mouse button area please?

Are any of Dell's business line of notebooks going to have HDMI and a dedicated Quadro FX grahpics card?

i think, from memory, that the e6500 has hdmi, but nothing has been said specifically about which nvidia cards they will have. in my personal estimation, chances are good they will be a Quadro NVS series because of what that series is intended for.
