    Thanks for the reply

I ordered a discrete graphics e7450 and I did see the pic earlier in the thread, but I kept seeing people ask about adding a second drive.

I am not interested in having two drives, I just want to upgrade the 128GB SSD I ordered it with. I really need a 1TB drive and dell didn't offer it. Hence why I got the smallest drive offered...

Does the discrete version come with a mSATA or a M.2 style?

If its the M.2 what drive is it as there are several slots an sizes? Does anyone know?

    Thanks

    Dan

Hi, it comes with mSATA for the hard drive that dell supplies.
There is also an m.2 slot for WWAN I believe that people have been trying to make work as a m.2 SSD slot, but it does not have the controller chip like mSATA slots do, so you need a m.2 PCIe controller SSD instead of a m.2 mSATA SSD. Hope that makes sense...

I believe it does come with an mSATA drive so I can just swap it out with a 1TB mSATA drive. Does anyone know that for sure?

Again I don't want to add a second drive and I am not sure why anyone would if a standard mSATA will fit considering you can get a 1TB drive.

    Thanks for the help

The discrete graphics version of the E7450 comes with a msata slot filled with either 128/256/512gb drive from the factory, you could remove it and add a 1tb msata drive.
The integrated graphics version of the E7450 comes with a 2.5" 5mm HD/SSD slot, and if you select a SSD option, it comes with a msata SSD in a plastic 2.5" interposer. If you select a traditional HD it will come in a metal bracket.

I have a sort of similar question to mustang's. I bought one with integrated graphics, and want to know if I can install a 7mm SSD into the HDD spot by removing the bracket? I ordered mine with the 500GB HDD, so the mSATA interposer is not an option. Starting to wonder if I should be regretting not getting one with the mSATA...

Also, how long did it take you guys to get yours? I ordered mine on Feb 2nd, it showed estimated delivery on the 18th, but it's now updated to March 5th. (although I did a build to order)

The design looks the same for the new one, so hopefully it will fit. Seems like I'll have to fashion some sort of way to secure it into the space, but I'm good at doing that sort of stuff.

Also, I read on the E7440 forum that Dell has a new BIOS (A16) which fixes the keyboard issues for Linux. Hopefully they will do the same for the E7450, since I will be running Linux on mine.

Hi, would anyone have advise as to whether the following M.2 SSD would (a) fit [probably yes] and (b) work without any changes to the system [?]:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147349 (to purchase)
    http://www.technologyx.com/featured/samsung-xp941-ssd-review/ (Review)
    It is:
    - PCIE
    - M.2
    - 512 GB
    - SSD
So, based on all the discussions/posts earlier one would think it would just plug-in and work!
I have a E7450 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD on order and it would neat to simply add the extra 512GB in the WWAN slot for a total of 1TB without having to fuss with changing the factory SSD.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately it fails on the length criterion.

M.2 cards can come in a bewildering range of sizes. The list here here mentions widths of widths of 12, 16, 22 and 30 mm and lengths of 16, 26, 30, 38, 42, 60, 80 and 110 mm. That Samsung SSD is 2280 (width 22mm and length 80mm) while you need 2242 (ie 42mm long) to fit the M.2 slot on the E7450.
