Oh I get it, so the m.2 SATA one fit but would not recognize. I thought he meant it did not fit.
It seems like the APACER unit if you can find one then...

yep, the card i tried fits the slot as its a standard M.2 2242 card, but its not recognized at all, not by Bios, or windows. Mine as well not be there.

If anybody can link me to a 256 GB (128 min) 2242 M.2 PCIe based SSD, i will gladly get it and reports back.

So, I was told the metal bracket is available to order from Dell, but the rep didn't seem sure if that meant it required a 5mm HD. Can anyone answer that? I can't seem to find many 5mm 2.5" drives available.

There are a few 5mm drives available - the highest capacity one AFAIK is the WD10JPVX at 1TB. I have one in my E7440.

But the keyboard issue is just in Linux?

I just ordered one of these e7450 i7-5600U with the discrete 840M Graphics and a 128 SSD hard drive. I have not seen any information if a standard SATA 2.5 (7mm) SSD will work or do we need a slim SATA 2.5 (5mm) SSD? It would seem that you could take the bracket off the hard drive msata and do away with the msata to sata adapter?

Can someone explain? I would really like to order a 1TB drive to swap out

    Thanks

Any comment about the fan yet from those who now own it? Is it relatively silent or does it have a high pitch sound or coil noise?

Hey buddy, the discrete graphics version of this laptop does not have a 2.5" 5mm tray. You can see pictures of the internals earlier in this thread. The jury is still out on if the non discrete version which does have a 2.5" tray can use 2 hard disks or not, I don't think anyone has had success yet. I believe on the 2.5" bay it is still 5mm height drives only. but again you won't have this option if you got the 840M graphics version.
