Latitude 7450 Owners' Thread

I have Windows set to 125% scaling with the few which are blurry because they don't scale properly set to 100% scaling in the program properties. Some of these have the facility to change the scaling / font size within the program.

have you tryed
win 10 dpi fix .exe?
is it safe?

with 125 dpi everything becomes small (eg. ms office...)

 

Win10 DPI Fix creates three registry keys to make Windows 10 use Win 8.1 scaling.

These are
HKCU/Control Panel/Desktop/DpiScalingVer (4120)
HKCU/Control Panel/Desktop/Win8DPIScaling (1)
HKCU/Control Panel/Desktop/LogPixels (120)

All are REG_DWORD type and decimal.
You can try this out without installing the app. As author writes, the application is just to avoid nasty CMD.exe terminal window that pops up at boot if you placed this registry change into the startup (otherwise, the scaling will reset).

If you ask such kind of question, you'd better use the app. I guess it should be safe. At least, I've started to use it and left it with 110% scaling (Win 8.1 method). Looks fine to me. Device Manager font is smooth.


EDIT: One thing is incorrect though. Once I set either Win8.1 scaling or custom scaling (I did not check what caused it), one of the system notifications icons disappears. In my case it was battery meter. I tried to get it back in Windows notifications settings, but it looked like Windows couldn't show power, network and volume icon at once.

 

Is this compatible with m.2 ssd?

Dell ships the E7450 with mSATA SSDs. If the E7450 is a version with the Nvidia GPU then it will only take the mSATA SSD while in the versions without the Nvidia GPU the mSATA SSD is mounted in a frame ("interposer") in the 2.5" drive bay. You could fit an M.2 SSD in these by using a third party M.2 to 2.5" SATA adapter.

Thanks for that, that makes sense but I guess Sata III speeds would limit the faster M.2 SSD?

The laptop still gets very hot when plugged in in the adapter (PN N6M8J) ...

The power plan is the power balanced .
Why turns hot to bottom when the adapter is plugged in ?

 

i have the bios version of 5/2015.

is there any need to update to the latest bios of 4/2016?
have you done this?
