It is important for me. Does Dell Latitude E7450 with GeForce 840m support 4K resolution (3840x2160) with 60 Hz ratio on external display? Is it possible to switch on BIOS between Intel HD 4400 and GeForce 840m?

    Thank you very every answer.

    +1 for this question.

Or does the E7450 with iGPU support external 4K with 60 Hz, over Mini Displayport?

The Intel specs for the i5-5200U (one of the E7450 CPU options) say
However, I can't find a similar explicit statement of the maximum resolution for the 840M. Normally, the GPU switching is automatically done by Optimus with the 840M only being called into use when there is computationally demanding (eg 3D) graphics rendering.

The Intel GPU in the older CPU for the E7440 (example here) is rated at:
The mobile GPU benchmark list at notebookcheck is a very useful resource for comparing performance under different conditions.

When it arrives you can pull the existing stick out and look its part number up on ebay. Very likely you can find a matching stick for $20-30. For instance, mine came with an 8GB SK-Hynix HMT41GS6BFR8A-PB. I found one for $42 and it worked perfectly. You have to remove the battery and two screws to access the ram slot, it should only take a few minutes. I think Dell has a disassembly guide on their support site if needed.

    Gentlemen,

if any of you guys owning a 3750 should have Google Earth installed, I'd appreciate any opinion/report about whether GE runs fluently and smoothly without any jerkiness (even when doing relatively fast panning, rotating and zooming, possibly all at the same time, possibly using a 3D controller like for example a 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator).

    Cheers

Thanks for your answer. Will do just as you suggest. Impatiently waiting for arrival of my 7450. Due to be delivered on the Monday but hoping it will get to me before that!

Just got my dell e7450 discrete model. I was wondering if the ssd is upgradable to something like this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_1741&products_id=31359

I haven't used it much yet, but I noticed that there is some backlight bleeding at the bottom corner. I will post pictures later in a review.
The screen is a FHD antiglare matte display, but I'm not sure if it is a tn or ips panel, is there anyway to confirm?

Also would getting a screen replacement solve the backlight bleeding? I plan to replace the current screen with a glossy display.

    1. I can't think of a reason why that SSD won't work in the E7450: I have the older 840 EVO mSATA in my E7440. Unlike the M.2 format, which has a bewildering range of sizes and interface options, mSATA SSDs conform to a single standard.

    2. Does your display have good vertical viewing angles without colour inversion? If so, it is not a simple TN panel. It may, however, not be IPS (which is an LG-Philips technology) but another panel manufacturer's high viewing angle equivalent. My E7440 has a very good AUO panel.

    Gentlemen,

could you guys please elaborate about the stiffness of the hinges -- whether there is any wiggling when using the touchscreen?

Can you actually use the touchscreen properly (and perfectly) if the 7450 just sits on a table (i.e. if you don't hold the screen with your other hand or something), without screen wiggling?

I don't have the touch version, but the hinge is very stiff. If I hold it with the screen open at 90 degrees to the keyboard and parallel to the ground, I have to shake it quite violently to make it move.

Poking the screen does not make it move.
