    I actually did a similar swap on my E7450 last week, except that I went the other direction, 2.5 inch HDD -> mSATA SSD + interposer. I ordered the Interposer from eBay (part #FCN4M). It says its for an E7440, but fits the E7450 fine. The cable that came with the interposer did not work with the E7450. It appears that the connector on the motherboard has changed and is slightly deeper. However, using the existing cable that came with my HDD worked fine.

    I will also say that the latest bios update definitely fixes the debouncing issue under Linux with the keyboard. Actually overall this machine has a very smooth Linux experience. The only glitch I have experienced so far was needing to use the i915.enable_ips=0 parameter override on the kernel to get VT/X Windows switching working, which should be fixed in 4.1. The speed on the Broadwell i5-5300U is much faster than the Haswell i5-4200U that I had used before. Its hard to tell a difference between it and a 4702MQ when doing single-core tasks. I think Dell really has a winner with this model.

    I bit the bullet last night. Dell had a $350 off coupon any purchase of $999 or more in the Outlet.

    i5-5300U, 1x8GB, 1920x1080 non-touch, 500GB hard drive, 4 cell battery, webcam, Intel 7265AC, fingerprint/smartcard reader. Guessing it is integrated graphics since it has the 500GB SATA drive in there. All that for 769 after coupon (out of pocket 757 after Mr. Rebates and Amex cash back). I have a few extra 500GB Samsung Evo 850s, so that is going in the second I get it. I'm looking forward to the machine.

    I'm coming from a E7440 with i7 with FHD touch. I don't use the touch, I don't need that much CPU power, and I don't need discrete graphics. I am able to run the LCD + 2x24" LCDs at my office at 1920x1200 so I'm good. I wanted battery life and hoping to get into the 6 hour plus range with this new one.

    The E7450 has;
    • a larger battery (54Whr vs 51Whr)
    • HDMI & miniDP as opposed to HDMI & VGA
    • lighter (1.56kg vs 1.81kg)
    • thinner (20.4mm vs 22.9mm)
    • metal magnesium case (+ carbon fiber display back with touchscreen option) vs plastic case (you will get a magnesium display back cover with the E5450 if you choose the 1080p option, but the rest of the case is still plastic)

    Hi E7450 owners,

    Was wondering if any of you considered purchasing a Lenovo T450s vice the Latitude E7450? If so , what features/factors pushed you towards the E7450 over the T450s? Thanks for any input!

    Considered it for 1 second: the soldered 4GB RAM module killed any desire to buy it. Besides, the discrete graphics version (geforce 940m - which is identical to the 840m) is slightly heavier than the E7450.

    • Discrete graphics version of the T450s was not available in my region
    • Case held together with a lot of plastic clips, so is a bit of a pain to open up & upgrade RAM/SSD
    • 4GB soldered RAM = no dual channel = slower integrated graphics
    • Docks are more expensive - Dell has been using the same dock for years now so picking up a used one off eBay is really cheap
    • miniDP + VGA on the T450s is not as useful as miniDP + HDMI on the E7450, as I use HDMI regularly for TVs and miniDP is useful for high res monitors.
    • Magnesium chassis of E7450 felt nicer than the Glass Fiber / Carbon Fiber reinforced plastic of the T450s
    • Speakers on T450s were terrible, speakers on E7450 are okay.
    • T450s has no indicator lights on the inside, and only a power light on the outside. E7450 has charge, wifi, power and disk on both sides
    • Discrete T450s has no docking connector!
    • No NFC or contactless smartcard support (not really a big deal)
    However there are a few features of the T450s that I do appreciate / miss;

    • Extended battery option. E7450 only has a 52Whr option - I sometimes don't mind the battery sticking out the back.
    • Better keyboard - E7450 keyboard is very good, but T450s is better.
    • Trackpoint on E7450 is worse than on any thinkpad (except maybe the ones without dedicated trackpoint click buttons).
    • Matte touchscreen option
    • Personally I think the design looks a bit nicer

    All things equal I'd probably take the T450s, though you're likely to get a better deal on the Dell and it does have a better warranty. I've heard the E7450 keyboard is better, though I've never used one. The thing about about the Dell trackpoint is the sweet spot is smaller. At times it seems decent, but if I'm off a bit, it's frustrating.
