Thank you for the part number. I may end up ordering one since my config is with the mSATA 80GB drive and it's doubtful that caddy can be used with my standard 240GB SSD. Sure wish there was a way to make use of the 80GB mSATA after I remove it, but there is nowhere else to plug it in on the E7450.

Thanks again, John. Based upon your info and part number I was able to contact Dell and get the HDD bracket ordered without any problem!

    Hey,

Thanks to a student discount, I can have the e7450 with i5 5300u, Full HD, 8Gb and 840M, 3 year warranty for 1000€ but I am really concerned with the backlight bleeding. Is only the version without dGPU concerned? Are the fans really quiet in idle?

What would the GPU have to do w/ backlight bleeding on the screen?

The dGPU version has a different inside layout, maybe the units have been made after those without it and the problem has been corrected. Or maybe it is just a matter of luck!

I have the 840M version with the i7. Browsing the web, listening to spotify, etc. is 100% quiet - the fan doesn't even turn on. Even when playing light games on the 840M (ie. Hearthstone), the fan only runs at what appears to be it's lowest setting (about as loud as a spinning hard drive in a standard laptop). If you run a more intense game (ie. CS:GO) the fan certainly becomes fairly audible, however just loading the CPU (ie. with multiple VMs) doesn't seem to get the fan to run as loud as loading the GPU (probably because the CPU is a 15W part and the 840M is ~30W).

Do note the dedicated graphics version does appear to have a much larger fan than the integrated graphics version, so I have a feeling that for pure CPU loads the dedicated graphics version will be quieter than the integrated version.

Can't wait for another coupon to come around. Ready to give this a shot over my 7440.

For everyone located in the U.S. who are getting or have an E7450 with an 840m, how did you order it? I tried customizing online and no luck. Spoke via online chat with home sales, no luck. Spoke via online chat with small business sales, no luck. Spoke via phone with small business sales, no luck. Spoke via phone with medium business sales and they wanted me to confirm my business tax ID which I, uh, didn't have on hand. Any tips?

Not in the US (New Zealand), however I spoke via. online chat to small business sales and quoted the SKUs for the 840M parts and told them to search it up.

Do note sometimes it's referred to in Dell's system as "discrete graphics" instead of "GeForce 840M", so maybe try asking for "Discrete graphics".

Here's a screenshot of my order. The SKUs on the left may be useful. You probably want to use 338-BFKC which is the i7 base w/discrete.

Bracket arrived yesterday. Opening up the e7450 was a simple task. Removed the mSATA drive and added the 7mm 240GB SATA SSD and 4GB RAM. Closed it back up. Booted the laptop and checked the config. SSD and RAM both show up in the machine specs. The whole process took about 15 minutes start to finish. Thanks again!
