Depends on your use and of course the price. I would toss in a more powerful processor for sure. These are high-end laptops which can use a high-end processor.
And generally you want to go for the 7530 unless you want to configure it with Windows 7 and a 6th gen Core i7.

What is wrong with Precision 7520 and Windows 10? Also, i5-7300HQ is 7th gen?

Nothing at all. But depending on the prices you may want to consider the 7530 instead. When I tried to configure both via Dell.com I could get better prices and performance-per-euro on the 7530.

And yes, the i5-7300HQ is a 7th gen core i5.

Here's the easy way to tell the generation from the model number: Look at the first digit

    i5-7300HQ is 7th gen.

Dell just cancelled my order for a Precision 7520 with i7-6920HQ and Windows 7 downgrade. (Dell Netherlands).
When I asked about the reason for cancellation I was told that they cannot supply the Core i7-6920HQ nor Windows 7 downgrade anymore. I'm quite disappointed and confused because they still offer these choices in their configurator:
    https://www.dell.com/nl-nl/work/sho...20/spd/precision-15-7520-laptop/xctop7520emea

Maybe I'll go for the Xeon E3-1545M v5 and and get myself a Windows 7 license via 3rd party, but I'll first need to get my money refunded. Bummer.

    I finally got my Dell precision 7520 yesterday. Now with a Intel Xeon E3-1545M v5, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-2666 non-ECC, Quadro M2200 and Windows 10 for workstations.
I performed the downgrade to Windows 7 Pro myself and everything seems to be fine now.

However: I decided to install additional memory, Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM
    CT2K8G4SFS8266 http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct2k8g4sfs8266

And when I install it, the notebook fails to POST. (Well, it boots one time, displaying a warning that the amount of memory changed. When I press F1 to continue, Windows loads fine and sees the full 32GB of memory.
But when I reboot, it fails to POST. No dell logo and diagnostics LED blinks 2x amber and 1x white. (indicating CPU Failure). When I remove the new memory, the system boots fine again, so the processor has not failed.

    Anyone knows more about this?
Does anyone have experience with adding DDR4-2666 memory to a 7520 with DDR4-2666 installed? By default, the 7520 comes with DDR4-2400 memory but DDR4-2666 can be selected in the configurator.

Have you checked the CAS latency of the memory that came with your system? (You can check this with CPU-Z.) Does it line up with the Crucial memory that you bought?
It might be a bit more trouble to try since you'd have to remove the keyboard, but maybe it's worth checking how the system behaves with only the Crucial memory installed?

The Crucial memory is CAS 19 DDR4-2666 and this seems to match with the Dell-installed memory. Here are the details of my Dell-installed memory:
    7520_Memory.jpg 7520_Memory_XMP.jpg

I do not feel comfortable removing the keyboard because the ribbon cables look very tiny and fragile.

Does anyone have experience with 8GB DDR4-2666 Non-ECC modules for the Precision 7520? Can you recommend my any? I normally buy modules from the Kingston configurator but they oly show DDR4-2400 modules for the Precision 7520. Even Dell does not show them at their site when I look for compatible memory modules. (Only DDR4-2400)
