No. Both M.2 slots of the 7720 are NVMe. The 2.5" drive bay can be either SATA or NVMe (using an interposer).

The M.2 slots use 4 PCIe lanes.

Doesn't the HP TB dock use a clever design though where both ends of the single cable that connects to the laptop has double connectors at either end (a TB3 connector plus a power connector)? It is basically two cables in one so that the dock power supply is passed through the power connector of that specialized cable instead of only through the TB3. But even with that clever setup the HP dock I think only supports up to 200W

Dell should maybe consider something like this on future TB docks and Precisions that require more than 130W.

Thank you too for this great informations. This let me reconsider, if it is a good decision, too save money in choosing the class 40 SSD.
Maybe now I will switch too class 50.

I have an older e-dock (one that does not have any USB 3) that I use with a Precision m6800. Can the 7720 work with this dock, and will the VGA out still work?

Never used (known of) an interposer before now. Any ideas how many lanes would be available using it? I'm guessing 2-lanes, since 3 slots with 4-lanes of NVMe would be too good to be true and cause me to re-think my shopping/wish cart.

Interposer gets 2 lanes on the 7710, I think it will be the same on the 7720.

I have a FedEx #, but I think the unit may still be in China - so maybe 1-2 more days before it hits a real delivery truck. I may just have to benchmark the thing silly the moment it arrives.

You ordered a 7720? If yes, with which display option?

The thin-bezel 4K, 10-bit display option that I don't think anyone's exactly seen yet, with the P4000 and the E3-1505v6 CPU. I believe it's the Sharp-supplied screen, since on Day 1, the screen vendor was listed on the Web configurator and you could specify. If I can clean up my space, I might post one of those open-the-box videos.
