One major feature of KabyLake is it support HEVC 10-bit hardware decode(which is the HEVC Blu-Ray standard), while SkyLake only support HEVC 8-bit hardware decode.

You can expect KabyLake to be much more power-efficient when watching HEVC video. HEVC can have high quality and small size at the same time, compare to H.264.

Maybe that's where 5520 worth, besides its higher Ghz.

Does this also apply for the 7520? Thought the device would be on sale by now in EU.

Just had an online chat with Dell agent (not sure how reliable are they) and he told me that
the product launch of Dell Precision 7720 has been postponed to the end of March (last week of March). Last week they told me that it would be 2nd week of March, so who knows, it might go on like this until May like somebody suggested earlier.

The version I have is mid March, at most the end of March. What a long Feb. 28 :-(

Just chatted with a Dell agent who seems knowledgeable, he said it 7520 will be available in 1 or 2 months. According to him, "the production team is still desigining the laptop with the latest configuration", "The 7520 doesnt come with the E Dock port".

I have chatted with quite a few agents in the past week, and their answers are inconsistent. Some say this week, some say this month, and some say 1-2 months. I don't know how this happened.

The agents don't know what they're talking about.

I chatted with Dell yesterday and they said basically the same thing - another 3-4 weeks for the 7520. If they're delaying it another month, you can be sure they're going to delay it again in a month.

Well this is just a undesirable pickle, because i'm deciding to buy a precision and thought i could wait for the new ones. With this news i'm not sure if i should wait more or not? anyone have a suggestion or an advice?

Echoing @alexhawker above. We have plenty of history of these forums with the online chat reps being clueless, even regarding the details of products that are already being sold, let alone a product that is not being sold yet. Clearly they are all over the board right now. They don't have any more access to the launch date than we do and are most likely directed to just tell you to come back later with a vague estimated time frame.

Unfortunately, Dell has not provided any guidance (chat reps don't count). It could drop today or it could drop in 10 weeks.

I personally would guess that it is going to drop soon (that is, within a few weeks rather than "May"), because they wouldn't have announced the original Feb 28 date if they weren't pretty sure that they would hit it. If you are in a position where you can wait a few weeks, just wait.

    [Edit]
There were murmurings when the 7510/7710 were released that they would be the last generation with the ePort dock port (focusing on the Thunderbolt-based docks for the future instead), so I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. However, given the design similarity between the 7X10 and 7X20, I wouldn't be surprised if they kept it. We'll find out soon.

I can't find any information on whether the 3520 has the ePort dock port or not. The web site makes no mention of it so I am going to assume that it is gone. I think that if it is gone from the 3520, it is likely to be gone from the 7X20 as well.
