This works fine, however, my experience with the 7510 has been:
If you have two 4K monitors attached to the system, you can't attach any more. If you want three external monitors, at least two of them need to be 1080p. If you want two or more 4K, you have to use the ePort dock to attach the third monitor (with graphics switching turned on in the BIOS so that both the Intel GPU and discrete GPU can be used).

This could have been improved with the new generation 7520/7720, but at the moment I don't have any reason to believe that it will be different.

I might neglect the 7520/7720 generation. Because you know that 6c12t coffelake cpu will be released in H2 this year. Probably the accordingly 7730/7530 will be released by the end of 2017 or very early 2018. That will make 7520/7720 a very short-life generation.

Also, according to AMD, it looks like ryzen laptop cpu will be available H2 this year. If they decided to provide 8c16t laptop cpu for the first time, that will be even more exciting.

But like you said, for gaming purpose, for now 7720 might be a very good choice since the pascal card is so much powerful than maswell based card. Even P3000 is already good enough for most games.

Don't get too excited about that timeframe. The normal iteration time for the Precision line is about 15 months --- sometimes longer, depending on what Intel does mostly.

Coffee Lake CPUs will make an appearance in "very late 2017" --- that is assuming Intel doesn't slip (you know them). That will be CPUs "low power laptops and 2-in-1s". Desktop CPUs won't appear until early 2018 and high-end mobile won't appear until after that. Dell takes a month or two to get the Precision ready after the CPUs are released. We are looking at April/May 2018 at the earliest for the Precision 7530/7730.

And don't hold your breath for an AMD-powered CPU in the Precision just yet. I would love to be proven wrong (Ryzen looks really interesting), but aside from the CPU, the entire platform for these machines is built around Intel (chipset, disk controller, etc.). Dell may well slap the new AMD technology into the Alienware systems, but I'm not sure if AMD's platform as a whole is proven enough for Dell to be comfortable spending the time and effort to get it lined up for their high-end business system, with certifications and everything that are required and the level of support expected, considering that their audience would be more apt to buy into the proven Intel platform anyway.

On the bright side... If things slip a little and the Precision 7530/7730 actually drops in the June/July timeframe, it is possible that NVIDIA might have Volta GPUs ready for it. (Otherwise, we'll have to wait another entire iteration for those...)

Overal what you said are very reasonable man.

Uhm, however, as far as I know, in H2 2017, it is the 10nm cannonlake CPUs will be released first for 'low power laptop and 2-in 1s' as you mentioned. However, for high performance PCs, coffeelake, the final gen of 14nm, will be released, the time is again H2 2017. And we will for the first time have 6c12t intel mobile chip. Ryzen gives intel such a heavy big beat and intel have to take quick action in H2 2017 and they will not wait until 2018 to release their coffeelake. There are already many reports and news about this. You could google things like intel coffeelake and you will see.

If coffeelake was really indeed released in H2 2017, I feel Dell might not really wait until the middle or even later in 2018 to release their 7730/7530, just in order to wait Voda GPUs. Well, anyway, let's see.

You are right, if ryzen mobile chip was released in H2 2017, Dell might very likely slap them into Alienware first. Not sure if they will put AMD Ryzen into their precision line, we will see. But no matter what, it will be very exciting that if AMD could release its 8c16t ryzen mobile CPUs in H2 2017.

So I guess, if someone does not really badly need to upgrade to precision 7720/7520, it might be better to wait a little bit and see what will happen.

2017 will be a good year for CPUs, and even better for consumers. The new battle between AMD and Intel started in 2017 again!

What I can tell is no one I know that knows what I know would ever voluntarily use a Lenovo in any profession or position that requires secrecy, be it corporate or otherwise ;)
