@Bokeh do you know if the Dakine backpack that used to work on the M6700 is big enough for the 7710? I bought mine thanks to your recommendation...:)

Yes. The 7710 is smaller. Actually fits better. I need to post some comparison pics.

at the end dell replaced my 6700 with 7710. It will arrive within the first days of march. unfortunately no TB3 but I had no choice: take or leave the offer as it is.
    Took !
They will send me the machine with 500gb hdd and windows 7
In the next days I will look in the shop for a NVMe 950 pro 512gb. I'd like to be ready to do the first start of the PC through the samsung: I believe it should be possibile. Of course I will have a support PC to do all the transfer. It's enough I do an imagine of the 500gb hdd in the 950 pro ? yes, no? and in the BIOS do I have to set something of particular for NVMe ?
second step: update win7 to win10 though windows update. (win10 is mandatory to get a good scaling of IGZO monitor). But is there any chance to use win7 code to install a native copy of win10? (since I'd very prefer to avoid the update win7->win10)...
Maybe confused, but I'm sure you have understood my purpose...any suggestion is very appreciated. :)
    thanks !

    ciao

if you get the 7710 with the Windows 10 Pro 64bit English, French, Spanish [Included in Price]

Can you use the MS download of Win 10 Pro to do a clean install?

Is there much of a difference between i7-6920HQ vs Xeon E3-1535M? Or is the big difference that the Xeon has ECC?

    @rinconmike
yes, Xeon can manage ECC, nothing else.

I can't choose win 10 "included" in the price, 'cause the offer they did me include win7 64 and I can't customize it..

thanks. I am looking to order one with Win 10 and curious if I have to use the Dell DVD or if the MS download will work. I assume it will, but figured I would ask.

The MS download should work fine. If you ordered the machine with Windows 10, the product key should be "burned" into the BIOS, and the Microsoft install media will pick it up. Of course, you'll have to do some work with the drivers after Windows 10 is installed.

    Hi @aaron441
Dell is replace my M6700 with the 7710 but, since my originary M6700 born with win7, they put win7 in 7710 proposal that I'm not able to custmozize in anyway.
For this reason I was questioning if I am able to install win10 natively avoiding the update from win7.

If your 7710 comes with a Windows 7 product key (probably on a sticker behind the battery), the Windows 10 installer should accept it. This only works with newer Windows 10 install media, you need Windows 10 version 1511 (build 10586) — The Microsoft download gives you this version, I'm not sure what version will be on the Dell media. Media that is the original Windows 10 release (build 10240) will not accept a Windows 7 key.

You can check the build number by looking at the setup.exe file on the install media. Right-click -> Properties -> "Details" tab -> Look at "File version"

Even if that doesn't work, you can upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 to get the machine activated, and then do a clean install of Windows 10 afterwards (activation status will still be good).
