Graphics Card upgrade for M6800 ?

Did the M6 just plug and play, with only an inf mod? Did you have to flash it or other stuff?

 

Yes,you will have to mod it.
Remember, only it will work on an M6800 with an EDP motherboard.

 

why not LVDS and optimus ?

 

I also have an M6800 with LVDS screen and was a no go with the M6.
Could perfectly be my lack of expertise.

 

I think it does work with an m6700, there is someone on ebay selling an m6700 with a tesla m6 in an m6700, he says only the hdmi etc out doesn't work. So I can't imagine why an m6800 couldn't take it if you mod the inf correctly, that's a concern bc I have not looked at the nvidia driver package lately to see if there is even an m6 in there to change the info to.

I can not give any info regarding the M6 on a M6700.
It is worth a try.Perhaps getting and vga to hdmi adapter is possible to get connected to an external monitor or TV set.

 

Well in the regular nvidia driver dl page you have to select the dataserver cards to get the Tesla M6 win10 drivers so it does work, you'd just have to change the system nvdmi.inf in the driver package for it to support an m6700/6800. Something like this: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_xxxx&SUBSYS_153F1028
1028=M6700
153F1=Optimus on
xxxxx=tesla m6 identifier, it's 13D7 for a 980m.

I actually think what the ebay seller did was use a regular, non dataserver, nvidia modded driver for an m5000m and the computer recognized it as a Tesla M6 somehow. I'm going to ask the seller if optimus works with the m6 though.
Edit: NVM optimus does work with it from the device manager picture, nice.

 

Thinking in a near future to upgrade the M6800 ,I was asking myself what would be the limit for an i7 4910mq cpu.
Would the HP rtx mxm series be an option to avoid a bottleneck with the 4910mq?
The reason I ask is the experiment that somebody performed with the same card series on the M6700 forums.

 

This really depends on what sorts of things you are running. If your apps are GPU-bottlenecked then you would benefit from the RTX card, but if they are CPU-bottlenecked then you would not.
Note that the RTX MXM cards have a different layout than standard. You would have to do some modding to the GPU heatsink.

I was already aware of that after following the M6700 try with an RTX.
One of the advantages is that these cards are coming with a VBIOS already soldered to the card.
