I have the Shadow Virtual Machine gaming service. For those that don't know it's service that allows you to connect to fairly high spec machine (via fast Internet) and game or perform other operations requiring some muscle. I use with my Fire HD 10 (I've given it an Amazon-ectomy) when I'm away from home and it's just great. I was checking hardware and what was the gpu in the shadow machine? A p5000 ...............There's a certain amount of irony there...........

Pretty much any cloud based game service like that will use quadro cards due to licensing and drivers (well, except for maybe Geforce Now). For Geforce cards, they actually have a driver check that prevents the driver from working on a virtual machine. It's a common problem for folks who try to setup a a VM for gaming reasons.

It's been a week now and I use my laptop a *lot* under three operating systems. I haven't seen a hint of instability and have enjoyed much improved performance. My report like Epsilon's ------ So far so good.

I used the Nvidia Quadro 425.31 drivers ......If you're having issues with windows shutting your 980 down in Optimus I'd suggest sending Aaron44126 a pm as he is, quite frankly, the best I've ever seen at modding drivers

Not sure what I can suggest that you don't already know, I read your earlier post and it sounds like you've run across my previous posts and have as much as an understanding as I do on what to look for when doing your INF mod to make sure that Optimus is supported.

One unexpected benefit of the 980m that I found today - the HDMI port can do 4k @ 60hz now! I'm fairly sure it was limited to 30hz before. It can't do the full yuv4:2:2 10bit HDR stuff, but I'm still pleased that 8bit 60hz works! Battery life is *really* bad with this resolution though at only 1.5 or 2 hours, so I'll definitely be plugging it in if I ever play 4k video files from this machine.

Hello. Perhaps in the format of this forum, this message will not be appropriate a bit, but I bought my Dell M6800 without a video card and processor. I have already ordered the processor i7-4930MX (I have to overpay $150 for 100 MHz in favor of I7-4940MX too wasteful) and I want to put on it Nvidia GTX 980M. The price of wifn at $ 300 seems overvalued to me. Since many here have changed their video cards to P5000 or more powerful options. Perhaps someone would like to get rid of their old worker GTX 980M. If someone wants to do this - write to me in a personal message, I will be glad. I live in Ukraine.

I had to replace my Modicia Linux install (for various reasons that sadden me) and had one hell of a time replacing it it. Finally I found the only semi-modern distro which would install was the same Mint Linux 18.2 I originally used to flash the P-5000. I had to temporarily turn Optimus off to accomplish this. After the install I was able to use the driver utility to install the latest Nvidia drivers fur Linux
This all worked fine when I made an interesting discovery. I had to turn Optimus back on for Windows and MacOS. After that I booted into Mint and found the P-5000 still worked fine as the only card. I don't really need to worry about battery under Linux so I ended up leaving the config alone..... I was rather amazed I didn't have to install Bumblebee or Nvidia Prime ....the card works fine stand alone. :)
