    The main reason I am asking is because I have both screens and would like eventually to try.
    The pictures would be great.
    Thanks

    Well I can't think of *any* reason not to use Optimus and the P 5000 will work with either screen type if you do......Lunux isn't prone to the errors that plague windows before the bios flash .....so I would think you would be good....but it's worth noting Aaron44126 has developed a BSOD issue and he knows a lot more than me about all this..... he *is* using an M6700 but I can't imagine that affecting anything .....

    We have a very small set of data to go off of but there may indeed be issues with the P5000.
    Myself, P5000 in M6700, occasional BSOD (usually VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE) ... infrequently, less than once per week, but occurring when the system is under a light office workload.
    @JEAMN, GeForce 1070 in M6800, BSOD (also VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE) ... seemingly, when the system is under GPU load (i.e. gaming). Even though the situation is different, because of the similarities with regards to the crash itself, I believe that it is a system issue and not necessarily an issue with my card.
    @DynamiteZerg, P5000 in M6800, no BSOD's to report.
    Also, @RMSMajestic had P5000 in M6700 (IPS version) for a while and I haven't heard anything about BSOD's from him.
    @bobmook ... P5000 in M6800, no issues yet but a bit too early to tell.

    Anyway. I'm not willing to put up with the stability issue that I have encountered and I'm out of ideas, so I am switching back to M5000M tomorrow. I've got too much going on to be fighting with this or worrying that my system could randomly crash at any time. (P5000 for sale...)

    I had an experience exactly like DynamiteZerg in that I was able to use the linux Mint 18.2 install USB to boot and I even copy / pasted his Linux NVFlash instructions to flash the card.....this leads me to believe that for whatever reason ....the card itself is a crapshoot since my system (with admittedly a small sample)has been a model of stability like his .....what I'm trying to say is some P5000s seem to react well to this and some not, but all that is guesswork. I will of course keep reporting things here but I will say this....knowing what I know now I would not have made the upgrade as I fear future instability, so I'm not selling my gtx 965m for a bit ......

    I use Windows 10 the majority of the time but also boot Modicia Linux (for creative projects) and OS X (I think they call it MacOS now) Mojave for use with Logic Pro and and it's younger brother , Garage Band. I would advise you to read Aaron's recent post as there *might* be a 50% chance you end up with a stable system.....we really just don't have enough data ....Just recently we saw a path to a successful GTX 980 M upgrade described here and I can't help but feel that's likely the best and most stable upgrade for these nachines

    Just curious, can macOS actually use the NVIDIA GPU in Optimus configuration? I know they support graphics switching on actual Macs but I thought that the implementation was a bit different.

    You Can use it on hackintosh but not in a switching format.....my Nvidia is set to run external monitors (In point of fact that's the only time I use an external) which is very handy doing a convoluted Logic Pro mix :)
