    Does your battery work?

If your battery is not showing any lights and you have tried charging it, maybe its just dead. If its working and the lights don't work, there really isn't any way to easily fix them.

If you mean the lights on the laptop that indicate the battery is charging, those should work automatically when you are plugged in.

Has anyone managed to get vsync working with video playback in Win7?
I've tried everything with VLC and MPC-HC, without success.

    Hello everyone,

I haven't been on these forums for a long time but I have recently found interest in reviving an old x1 that is just lying around. I haven't gotten it to turn on just yet but I'm working on that. It doesn't seem to charge without me apply pressure under the ac cable-- difficult to explain but basically there has to be some leverage to get it to charge properly (battery icon lights up). I think my first step is buying a new power socket for it. Is there a definitive way to determine if it's the power socket or the AC adapter?

Also, does anyone have any solid suggestions for upgrading this little monster? I've seen some SSD and the obvious 2GB ram upgrades. I'm on the go quite often so a new wireless controller might be needed for newer network settings too. I would like to run Ubuntu on it but I suppose Win7 is definitely a possibility! Thanks for all the supportive posts so far!

    Update 2/11/11

I bought a universal charger to see if it would charge the laptop. Despite the battery being dead (3% capacity!) I could tell that it is not a adapter failure since the battery charging indicator would only light up when I wiggled the universal adapter too. So, I'm pretty sure that it must be the power jack itself that is the problem.

So far I ordered a new power jack, 2GB of RAM, and 5200mah battery (total of ~$70 in new parts).

I just added in the 2GB memory (Patriot PSD22G6672S Signature PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz 2GB, $25 after rebate!, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V5FE3W, Screenshot). Works great! Right after I put in the ram, I booted it up and the memory has changed screen came up and I checked the system utility screen to check if it read fine.

I decided to buy some generic round rubber feet on ebay as I paid only around $6 for a large sheet quantity and didn't want to spend $19.95 per x1 to replace the feet.

    OK,
so i have read this thread back and forth but still have a few questions:
1: i am trying to install XP on a CF card on my latitude X1.
the HDD connector i have in the X1 has a ZIF 50 pin on one side (motherboard) and a MALE 44 pin on the other side (connects to the drive).
what adapter should i be using?
    i got this:
Compact-Flash CF SSD To Toshiba IPod 1.8 inch Adapter - eBay (item 110529220051 end time Mar-02-11 00:39:11 PST)

but it obviously does not fit, as this adapter has 50 pin IDE connecter, and simply does not fit the 44 pin cable in my X1....
    so what do i do?
what current SSD drive will fit this 44pin MALE plug?

i also got this (it has not yet arrived):
Compact-Flash CF to Toshiba ZIF CE 1.8 Adapter for iPod - eBay (item 280422589935 end time Mar-07-11 01:43:36 PST)

will this work? can i just plug that right in to the motherboard? or am i going down the wrong path here?

any and all help is welcome!

    thanx all

I bought 60 Self-Adhesive Rubber Feet Round Black Small Bumpers on ebay from seller westfloridacomponents, item#120670299482, cost was $5.29 plus $3.25 shipping so total of $8.54 for 60 feet, great deal! Probably more than most x1 owners will ever need in their lifetime, but I have several x1's to refurbish and then sometimes my customers lose a foot here an there so I can now replace them again with these. Screw the overpriced original Dell feet, those things should not cost $19.95 for 7 tiny pieces of rubber!

So I finally got the chance to put in a new power socket with the help of an expert solderer. I bought the jack from this ebay seller: computekinc-us.

As for the past few posts, just to provide some sort of reply-- I do not know about using 44 pin HDs. Check through the many pages of this thread, a lot of people have been successful with HD upgrades albeit with some longer shut downs.

Did you by any chance forget to connect the palm rest ribbon? Or do you mean the lights on the actual battery?
