The thread NOR the laptop is dead at all. I'm still reading this thread it once in a while.
Now I'm up for changing my 32GB MOBI Mtron SSD out for more space.
Three names is in my sight:
    1. 32GB 1.8" KingSpec SSD with CF IDe 50-pin
    2. PhotoFast UK - G-Monster 1.8 50pin IDE V4
    3. AMP 64GB 1.8-inch 5mm 40-pin SaberTooth ZX IDE PATA ZIF SSD

Now i would like to hear some transfer rates and some tests of those drives. Which is fastest - which is most expencive?

    Edit:
External batteries for Latitude X1. I have never heard of such things. I have bought 6 6-cell batteries over time, and all of them are "reaching their limit". Can hold power for 30-60 minutes.
But. this guy can hold power for 10-15 hours. I'm amazed!

This thread is not dead, but obviously my notification settings died. :(
On the other hand, your questions might not be very clear and/or are already answered in recent posts. Even more, your questions are already answered in posts you are replying to:

Sorry, I don't understand any of your questions, as you replied to Kas2 "WiFi succcess report" with "Plug and play experience". And I see no conflict between "miniPCI" and "replacement". Suppose "Yes". Really? Yes! There is at least one more positive report regarding WiFi upgrade in this thread.

Yes, PhotoFast GMonster V3 has known problems, solved in V4. My KingSpec 32GB shows no problems. As I mentioned before (you just deleted that phrase in my quote), this thread already contains positive experience reports for both drives. You should consider a memory upgrade to 2GB.

Regarding my own Windows 7 experience: I'm not happy with Windows 7, it feels like being slower than XP, but yes, it works! Windows 7 Ultimate Performance Indices:
    1.2 Processor
    3.1 RAM (2.25 GB)
    1.9 Graphic
    1.0 Graphic (Games)
    5.9 HDD (KingSpec 32GB)

    Already in this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/6124385-post203.html (KingSpec 32GB)
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/5795892-post176.html (PhotoFast 50-IDE V4 128GB)

I never heard of AMP SSD. It is ZIF, so it won't match without adaptor.

In installed a KingSpec SSD in my Latitude X1, and then reinstalled Windows XP.
Initially everything was working great - super fast.
After the first day, however, shutdown times became huge.
It takes about 10 min for my laptop to shut down, at best. It still boots up very quickly and executes all the files (MS Office) super quickly, but shut down is ridiculously slow for some reason.
The only thing I installed on it was MS Office and a printer driver. Nothing else really.
I did update as many of the drivers as I could via Dell's website.

    Any thoughts why?

    No. :(

Is the HDD LED on or flashing during the 10mins?
Did you run CrystalDiskMark with expected results?
Do you use dynamic Virtual Memory settings? (My XP runs fine with 2GB RAM and Virtual Memory set to 0!)
Did you check all system logs?
Perhaps the system just waits for hung up processes to shut down?

My KingSpec 32GB behaves - on Windows 7. As I'm not so lucky with Windows 7, I want to test XP on my KingSpec asap.

As long as the problem persists: Avoid shutdowns, try standby and hibernate.

    @ Mr Spocki

    Sorry for the late answer
    The miniPCI is internal
I opened the X1 took out te old module and plugged in the new one (which is better ;) )
    The new cards works OK

    @ Fraggy72

Did you end up getting the KingSpec 1.8" 128gb SSD drive ???
    Does it work OK ??
Seems to be the best option for HD replacement
Any other experience with KingSpec 128gb SSD ??

    @all

I installed W7 some months ago
    Everything is OK exept QuickSet
Please let me have a link to a W7 compatible version

Just because i'm nervous - this this KingSpec 1,8" IDE CF 50-pin 128/64/32GB SSD's would make a perfect fit - without any adapters. Right?

In my research of SSD's i have found the items below: Avalible SSD's for X1 at the moment:
    1. Mtron MOBI 3000 1.8" 32GB SSD SLC PATA IDE, or find it here: Mtron Mobi - the same Tested OK! Need one of those adapters:
    2. 64GB KingSpec 1.8" IDE CF 50-pin SSD(MLC) This one don't need an adapter - i think.
      • Kingspec ZIF40Pin This one does need an adapter (it's the ZIF-version of the one above).
    3. PhotoFast G-monster 1.8 50pin IDE V4 64GB This one don't need an adapter either.
    4. AMP 64GB 1.8" 40-pin SaberTooth ZX IDE PATA ZIF SSD I don't know if anyone have tried this one? (The same - but another link)
    5. Runcore Pro IV 1.8" ZIF IDE/PATA SSD Drive I don't know if anyone have tried that one either?

    Edit:
    ===============================================================
Now I think I maybe will go for the 128GB KingSpec. But it's rather expensive. I can't see if it supports TRIM. I don't think it do...
Without Win7 or TRIM, this would - in my opinion - be too expencive for a SSD. Unless you don't use the computer a lot. But why 128GB then?

    Edit edit:

I have collected the tests of the different SDD's here:

Right! :) There is just one open issue with the long shutdown of tanbo.

As far as I remember, someone in this thread has tested RunCore with adapter. Sorry, I never liked the thrill with adapters and so I was focused on drop-in replacements.

Performance: We prefer CrystalDiskMark, because it distinguishes between read and write speeds with different block sizes. Regarding SSD, these values can differ extremely. Due to log files during startup and shutdown, writing many small blocks is crucial for system drives. One single number is too little to describe the characteristics of a system drive. It would by nice, if you would post CrystalDiskMark result of your Mobi, just to compare it with others.

EDIT: Sorry, browsed again the first 100 posts, but can't find a report regarding RunCore.

Bad news. I think my Mtron 32GB SSD MOBI MSD-PATA3018 ZIF is unstable. My computer freezes in a randomized pattern. Sometimes it's "awake" for days. Other days, i can restart my laptop 18 times because of freezing in the startup sequence. I never know when the "freeze" hit me.
I have re-installed XP from scratch (with my USB-pen) and even now it freezes once in a while. When it freezes, the SSD-light is just on the whole time.

I have testet the RAM with Memtest 86 v3.5 and found no errors. I have switched the SSD with the old Toshiba HDD and now everything is allright. I see no other option, that the SSD is dying. After only 2 years of (extensive) use.

    My CrystalDiskMark's is now:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    CrystalDiskMark 3.0 (C) 2007-2010 hiyohiyo
    Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Sequential Read : 75.830 MB/s
    Sequential Write : 3.001 MB/s
    Random Read 512KB : 75.173 MB/s
    Random Write 512KB : 2.973 MB/s
    Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 16.395 MB/s [ 4002.7 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.102 MB/s [ 25.0 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 18.079 MB/s [ 4413.8 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.104 MB/s [ 25.4 IOPS]

    Test : 100 MB [C: 48.4% (8.5/17.6 GB)] (x2)
    Date : 2010/09/28 5:19:03
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know what happened to the writing-speed. But something is wrong!

Edit: I have bought an additional X1 to use as home-LAN file-server. And i (would) have bought the KingSpec 1.8" 50pin IDE 128GB SSD, 50 pin P7230/ TX16 and is now waiting for both items to arrive :D

@Kas2: I contacted seller, and annulled the order of the KingSped 128GB SSD. I can't find any data, that it supports TRIM. I concluded, that it doesn't support TRIM. Hence - it is way to expencive to by this SSD, if it "only" lasts 2 years like my Mobi Mtron - with my extencive use. Right now, I'm back to use my old Toshiba HDD. But I'm concidering maybe buying the KingSpec 64GB in stead of the 128GB some day.
