I can confirm that 64 GiB photofast V4 has roughly similar performance as BASpro's bigger drive above (on win7). So pretty fast, except random writes, even also they are about 5x faster than 4200rpm mechanical disk.

50-pin version was a drop-in replacement for original hard disk.

It remains to be seen at what level performance will stay after prolonged use, as it doesn't support ata-trim, but claims to have some proprietary garbage-collection algorithm.

    So, zero moving parts left.

    No idea

I transferred a 120 Mo file to my other computer
    Old card: 2'39"
    New card: 28"

I installed Win 7 32 without specific glitches
Just pick the vista version for AR922X on Atheros site

Most of the drivers where installed by Windows
I had to chase the following ones:
    - video (see above)
    - audio (R99254.exe)
    - touchPad http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers
    - quickSet (Dell site)

    I replace my 60Go with a MK8007GAH 80Go drive and installed a 2Go memory chip.

Now this is a different beast... :)

    I bought that Kingspec disk:
    http://www.kingspec.com/solid-state-disk-products/ssd-18zif-mlcj.htm

Got the 32 gb version from a UK based seller on Ebay for around 80£.

Installed Windows 7 and these are the specs:

Are any of you planning to move to the Z or 13 Latitudes?

I asked Dell in a chat if they have fans on the Latitude 13 and Z. In short: they don't know. :eek2:

How can I assist you today?
    22:03:06 Customer
Does the Latitude Z have a fan?
    22:03:24 Customer
    And does the Latitude 13?
    22:04:50 Agent
Just an air vent, it does not say if it's a fan.
    22:05:59 Customer
OK... So maybe it has a fan there inside, and maybe not?
    22:06:26 Agent
It's very tight might have a small fan or just a heat sink option.
    22:07:08 Customer
Are we talking about the Z now? Or the 13? Or both?
    22:08:34 Agent
    Both units
    22:08:44 Agent
they're about the same in height, etc.
    22:10:11 Customer
It there a way of getting to know if they have fans? Since they could have SSD disks it would be nice if they were noiseless (and not just silent).
    22:14:55 Agent
I'm not seeing any detailed information.
    22:15:11 Agent
you might try support.dell.com to see if they have more information in the manual.
    22:15:22 Customer
    OK, thanks.

Latitude X1 has 50-pin IDE connector (Toshiba style). That drive has 44-pin (Hitachi style) IDE connector, so it's not drop-in replacement without adapter.

B00locks, you're right. I've just called the suppliers and confirmed that it will not fit....

    Back to the drawing board.

Well, I've been quite happy with my photofast V4, so that's my recommendation. Random write performance could be better, but even that is 5x faster than orignal MK6006GAH.
