Last off topic post: They don't switch manufacturers per se, instead they add that manufacturer to the array of possible manufacturers to get parts from. So, ordering a new Dell still yields a high chance of you getting that Samsung you hate or hear bad things about (SEC 5442 WXGA+ Samsung is a really flawless one though, a bit on the yellow side however compared to this awesome AUO4227).

Thanks for asking, I'm having a grand time with it. I downgraded to A05 so instead of downclocking to 168 Mhz it downclocks to 400 Mhz so games remain playable. Fallout 3 is a great game. The M4400 with the 1700M is not a good "gaming laptop" in the normal sense. After just a few minutes you can notice the downclocking and if you are in a tournament or at a LAN party it would be really annoying. I have, however, found out that it plays games on battery power very well. It can play almost all the games I own on medium settings for about an hour; something very few laptops can achieve. I'm not sure if this is because of the efficiency of the 65nm 9 series or if it is the QUADRO FX series' power management. Either way, it's a very nice feature to be able to play Half Life 2 on the bus to and from school.

I gave up on trying to get Maya since I can use it on all the [engineering] computers at school...although I would still like to test it out, along with Gelato. I plan on finishing maps for HL:DM and UT3 during Christmas break, but so far the computer performs beautifully in the UT editor.

I've checked out CUDA and it seems I will need to learn quite a bit before I can write anything useful.

I plan on getting thermal grease from newegg to replace mine and see if that can make a difference in my temperatures. AO5 is an improvement but after the processor gets past 75 C it only takes the GPU (since it's heat sink is getting hotter air from the proc) a minute to get to 100 C. If it's true that there's part of the GPU that doesn't even come in contact with the heat pipe/heatsink then I'll put a shim of copper in there too.

How's it going on your side?

    Thanks for the reply matt.
I'm disappointed for you with the downclocking, hopefully the long release timeframe from the last bios update means they are working hard on something for the temp reading anomalie's you suggested were happening.

Keep us posted on the thermal grease temps....I'm hoping it will make a big difference for you.

For me,everything is a box of birds,no problems what so ever.:)

Did try fallout 3 and uninstalled it,didn't really like it much,FarCry 2 was far more disappointing though with me being such a fan of the original.....I'm getting a bit miffed about multi platform games [PC,XB,ps3] as the developers seem to be going with console type low res textures and graphical detail and concentrating more on the lighting, bloom, effects etc, plus the controls and menu's seem to be becoming more and more console orientated with less options.......what are your thoughts on some of these newer ports or multi platform games?

thanks for this 'gamer review' dude !!

shall you do a cinebench10 test too ?
i'm very interesting t see how this mobile card perform in 3D applications/software.

i also have a quadro FX1700 (not M) in my desktop, so we could compare the result benchmark ..

    thanks again

ps : cinebench10 is a single archive to decompress and run, not a crappy uninstallable software, so it is easy to test and remove quicky !

@ Weegie, I too hope that the downclocking problem can be fixed. I enjoy Fallout 3 because I loved oblivion so much (both are pretty slow paced RPGs) and the ability to use the dev console certainly ruled out getting it on 360. Although, I must agree with you that modern games are being directed towards consoles....it has always been this way since consoles are more readily available then the required equipment pc gamers have (and love). I too think the changes are becoming more apparent and our breed is becoming a rarity :(
I'm highly anticipating Left 4 Dead, since valve has always been very kind to us :)

@ danao, you're quite welcome. Great! I've always wanted to compare the two, it's sweet you've got one. I'm downloading it now and you can expect a bench after it's done.

EDIT: Ok, Cinebench added, I'm guessing the card scored a 6242. How does that compare?

Your openGL benchmark is 10% better than the FX 770M,which is about what you would expect with FX770 v FX1700........your faster cpu's [than mine]are considerably faster at rendering though....I guess this is the area where the Quad core would really make its steep cost worth it.

I will start a cinebench thread for precision's [M2400,M4400,M6400] as there seem's to be a fair amount of people asking about rendering performance.
Could you post your numbers there matt.....thks
