would you mind checking the hardware id of your screen? I-RAM just received a AU optronics unit and i'm wondering if they''re using these for all newer systems

Hey Stingray....according too I-RAM it is but it's the WXGA+ not the WUXGA we have...indeed the quality is crap of the 2CCFL, far beneath par. I pushed for a refund because of the screen and when i got that confirmed i decided too let them make me a deal for the 2709w screen...got it for 50% of the old (lower) price....very happy with that and tomorrow i'm getting my system replaced and kinda hoping for a different screen...who knows

im using bios a03 and i havent had any issues at all, even under gaming conditions. i've only had problems with the security software causing blue screens and the fingerprint sensor not re initialising. i suspect its just a software problem. i havent called dell yet.

the screen, i love the colour, makes a lot of other screens look yellowish. but i agree with you, the uniformity is not great.

actually, on my wuxga inspiron 8600 i had the same problem with uniformity....got it changed many times, different manufactureres (sharp and samsung) and both has the issue...

exactly...and that's just what is supposed to be very good with the 2CCFL...even lighting.
BIOS A03 is working fine here but i can't shake the idea that the later versions address some issues we might not notice that easily, other updates ofcourse assume you're using the latest BIOS i think so i hope there will be an A07 which rounds it all up

the laptop only came out in mid august, i guess we can give them the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully software issues will be resolved by december/january.

the screen issue however, is a hardware issue so i think im gonna keep pressing them about it. hopefully your replacement is better.

i wonder why there are so many issues with samsung wuxga screens. the last one i had on my i8600 was a samsung screen to, however it was not 2ccfl and was much worse than this. the right two inches was noticably darker than the rest of the screen

Ya,can't say I've ever owned a ccfl that has been anywhere near as evenly lit as an led, pretty bizzare how the wuxga RGBLED has never appeared, you think if they can't get the RGB,that they would offer white LED uxga intead.

With regards to software problems,I guess dell have to contend with a lot of OS choices as well on the precision line...XP32/64,V32/64,RHE linux.
I hope they don't rethink their choice to offer options in the future because of the problems.

With Samsung screens,I have had 2 identical model numbers [on xps m1730].....one really nice and one really poor, and really hard to believe how different they were considering they were the same part number.
