Experience with 680m on M6700, some useful info for the upgraders.

But, then you haven't actually tried to download and install the drivers manually (e.g. choose Geforce 680M, download latest drivers for it and install)? I'm convinced it would work (e.g. K4000M is not on the list of supported cards for the geforce drivers, but it's still in the inf file as it installs without any problems). Perhaps Dell prefers to have drivers certified by them on the Precision series so they ask Nvidia to forward people to them for drivers?

That is the whole point of the workstation. It sorta defeats the purpose but its your computer. And some people like the low profile rocket.

Ah yes, thanks for bringing up this issue. I really missed out on that, having bad assumption that people who did VGA swap should have known about it.
Only certain model is supported by default NVidia driver. The rest need a custom INF file for hardware detection.
A good place to download the inf file is at LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers
It is not updated promptly when new driver is released, but it will after a few days.
You may ignore the driver file (download it from NVidia, faster). What is important is the INF file.
Another alternative is to modify the inf file, which I did always (only works for the same type of card I have)
For example, new driver 320.49 has been released for 1 week but still no INF is available at laptopdiveo2go.com. Here is the inf I modify for Clevo 680m only.

Not if your work is not depending on the GPU, but your gaming in free time does :)

What do you mean by "low profile rocket"? Like a business looks gaming laptop?

Again you defeat the purpose. Its the profiles that sustains the high powered GPUs.
A reference from the automobile enthusiasts sector: any ordinary unassuming vehicle that has been modified with a high performance engine and/or suspension.

What profiles would that be? It's the same GPU as the 675MX.

The visual one: Look at a minivan. Does its lines remind you of a go-fast car? Neither does the Precisions look like your average gaming rig. They're designed to be subtle and utilitarian (hence, the Quadro cards), not flashy.

Driver .inf Modification

The Clevo GTX 680M may require the proper device id to be added to the nvcv.inf file found in the Display.Driver directory.

Credit: jhmonroy
Instructions

Using Notepad, open nvcv.inf from the ‘Display.Driver’ directory (I suggest you copy a backup of file elsewhere)

(Using the replace function)

Replace all occurrences of DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_51051558 with DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_xxxx1028 (You can replace any GTX 680M Dev ID code you wish)

Replace all occurrences of %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.5105.1558% with %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.xxxx.1028% <–Dell hardware ID.

Replace all occurrences of NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.5105.1558 with NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.xxxx.1028
