I doubt it would be true as I confirmed that the M2800 uses the exact same heatsink/fan as the E6540. Everything on the two units is the same aside from the motherboard, since they have different graphics cards.

The FirePro on the M2800 is most likely a rebadged 8790M with FirePro drivers. If you're lucky you could get top bin 8790M dies.

Dell is good about that. I've done backlit/non swaps on a few different models, never had any trouble. Just like any in-depth work inside the machine, keep your screws organized and labelled, take pictures often so you can refer back when reassembling, and take your time.

So after 6 months it seems I'm finally getting my E6540 swapped for a M4800 - fingers crossed at least. Amazing how when you stop trying things sometimes just happen.

Congrats, veekay! I kind of hope that Dell has given up on salvaging the E6540, and swaps for M4800s will become the standard, but I kind of don't, also. The E6540 could have been salvaged, with a fairly small amount of work, but it had all sorts of issues that smelled of cost-cutting.

I'm looking forward to the M4900 in the not too distant future. If they get it right, I'll get one of those, configured correctly, and sell this M4800 for whatever I can get. If the M4900 isn't a marked improvement over the M4800, though, I'll be looking into other brands.

Hi, do you have also issues with outlier keyboard frame? Dell exchange this frame and palmrest - the issue still exist.
After exchange the motherboard - battery led in hinge of screen doesn't lights. Isn't that correct?
The battery led on palmrest, lights all time (even the battery isn't charged or when I disconnect a battery). Is it correct?

Nope, not normal. Sounds like your replacement motherboard is bad as well. Just keep hammering on them with every little issue that comes up, and they should give you some other model that works, before too long.
