thank you Forge64 for your respond but as i said ; i read on a dell forum that really many of e6540 owners do experience the same probleme so i thought that would only be a software probleme that can be solved somehow.

since im on a e6540 thread please if any one has games on his computer would you mind if you test your frames and see if your 8790M is activated.

    thanks for further help

It's not a software problem. I no longer have my E6540, but it was obvious when the 8790M engaged. The heat output increased quite a bit, if nothing else.

In case anyone else was curious - the M2800 uses the same heatsink as the E6540 so I wonder how they are going to handle things regarding heat since they "guarantee" the performance

I think they're going to guarantee a runaround, guarantee to deny all issues exist, and then guarantee you're stuck with it. :(

The E6540 could handle the i7-4800QM by itself, it was when the Radeon 8790M engaged that the temps ran wild.

It can barely handle the cpu alone. I still have spikes during "idle" that hit 80c

Can anyone tell me if there is a recovery partition on the e6540? I have to reload one at the weekend. I understand there is a windows CD and driver CD, but I figure the recovery partition would be an easier option if it exists.

    Many thanks

So, I bought one with really basic specs. I dont intend to do anything fancy with it so no need for an i7 or GPU...

do you think I will still run into problems with it? reading this thread has me pretty worried. My order is already shipped, so no going back. =/ and no other good deals out there. I got the below device for $880, Outlet New (not refurb/scratch-dent.)

Processor: Intel Core 4th Generation i5-4300M Processor (Dual Core, 3M Cache, 2.6 GHz, w/HD Graphics 4600)
    Windows 7 Ultimate
320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    4GB DDR3L at 1600MHz
    15.6 Inch FHD (1920x1080) Anti-Glare LED
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
    Intel HD Graphics
    Dell Outlet Latitude E6540
