Only tried it inside of windows. The files being copied in today's case are about 20 MPEG video files around 300-400MB each.

Did some googling on the issue and found my Volume Shadow Copy service was turned off, so turned that on and it seems to help, although the file copy will stall a couple times during and then resume (instead of outright crashing like it did earlier)

are we sure we cannot retrofit the expresscard cage?
the manual includes an assembly/disassembly page...looks like a self contained unit..only question is there a connector on the motherboard for it?
the palmrest needs a notch ..i'd be willing to buy the whole assembly...don't need the fingerprint assembly
here's the part that can be purchased, haven't gone through the 300+ parts to find the correct palmrest assembly

i am in agreement with many here regarding build quality, the 65 series was always the premium business laptop...bought this on ebay and the price was fantastic, it's fast and has a nice screen, but didn't notice the things dell has removed to save money, effectively making this a "budget" laptop
    no e-port battery connector
    no e-satap (?!)
    no expresscard

for those that want to use their external e-bay (PD02s), i did find you can use a usb 3.0 to esata, and a 18" Esatap Power Over eSATA Combo Female to USB eSATA M M Cable SAT 5001 | eBay...it uses 2 usb ports, but nice to be able to use the e peripherals ..especially if you want to clone

Welcome, does E6540 support msata drives? Which connector does support it (WWAN or 1/2)?

E6540 does support msata ssd drives.

I am planning to purchise E6540 with integrated graphics and i5 cpu only (no need for dedicated gpu and i7) and Full HD screen. 2 questions:

Does overheating problem and unsuffecient performance affect i5/intel hd only models?

If FHD panel is not that well, are E6520 FHD panels compatible with E6540?

I've done a lot of searching on this, and to the best I can figure:

    1) mSATA IS supported int he full length WWAN slot.
    2) mSATA is NOT supported in the empty (not the WLAN 1/2 slot) 1/2 mini PCIe slot.... (electrical compatibility not implemented for mSATA?)

Frankly, I can't find ANY information on what the intended purpose(s) is/are for the empty 1/2 slot.

    I'd like to know though...

HI everybody thank you for this thread

i looked for my probleme on this thread but didn't find it because there are too many pages sorry

i have an e6540 and my probleme is switchable graphics

as you know we have the intel HD 4600 and the 8790M

we switch between theme on amd pannel ( high performance , power saving )

probleme is even after switching the games still uses the intel HD 4600 so that even in 1024x720 and

low graphic; it's not playable ;i used techpowerup to see wether or not the 8790M is avtivated during

games ; it does ; i see gpu load and temp rising but not no difference during games; i confirmed that

with fraps; exactly same frames ( 8790M on or off ) and also confirmed it by disabling the intel 4600 in

control pannel; the 8790M doesn't take over the stuff ; games don't even start.

I intalled all drivers beta or not ( exept 13.2 beta wich failed )
I updated BIOS ; googled the probleme and found many of e6540 owners having same probleme if not all of them

sorry for my english and long thread

    Please help me

    thanks

E6540 supports msata only in the WWAN slot.

1/2 mini WLAN is for WLAN, other 1/2 mini is for the DDP|E crypto accelerator.

Momomimomi - You will want to contact Dell for support, it sounds like your 8790M may be defective or failing.

    I don't know if you can buy a DDP|E separately. I wouldn't bother.

You absolutely can run dual WLAN on E6530 and E6540, though the cable routing is very very tight. I ran an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 and an Intel 7260AC, so that I had all angles covered (Bluetooth, 2x2 AC, and 3x3 N).

With the M4800 I've moved to, the second half mini slot does not have any antenna connections nearby.
