I'm planning on ordering an E6530 to replace my current E6410, and need some input on the 500GB SATA Hybrid Drive. I'm a non-IT single person office, running Win7 for business applications. The SSD drives available just don't seem large enough for masses of data files, and I would like feedback from anyone out there that can tell me if the Hybrid Drive currently offered by Dell as their "Recommended Drive" is a good choice. (Because I am just a DUMB end-user, please don't tell me about all the really cool SSD stuff I can buy outside of the Dell options; I just need help choosing from the standard Dell equipment). Thanks very much.

    Hello,

I'm trying to decide on what to purchase between the this latitude and Sony Vaio S15. I've seen both but dell's display let me down, it's actually a below-mediocre display in my eyes with my 4 y.o. consumer asus being better. Can anyone else confirm this about the display ? The display I look at was made by chi mei.

Edit: I've had this notebook for a couple of days and I can say without a doubt that it's the worst display I've ever had the misfortune of using. I can't wait to send it back. So just a heads up for someone considering this purchase. If the display is important to you, look elsewhere.

    Hi all,

I looking into buying a e6530 as well and have a few questions. First of all, i do a lot of code compilation so i need a strong CPU and I don't mind paying for the i7 quad cores. But problem is my current laptop, hp envy 15, has a 1st gen i7 and I can not stress how bad the overheating issue is. MAJOR problem!! anyone has the e6530 with a i7 quad core cpu? how is heating issue here?

Also, I have the same question as JVCB. I know SSDs are really fast and all but 256 GB just won't cut it for me. Is the 500 GB hybrid drive a good compromise?

    Thanks

Regarding 500GB HDD, well no it is actuallny not that good compromise. Currently even i5 (Ivy) are fast enough too provide sufficient performance headroom, but this headroom rapidly diminishes when CPU is paired with HDD. Trust me there is quantitive and noticable difference between proper SSD vs any HDD.

Heat is not that of an issue, E6530 have different heatsinks for i7 QC and i5 DC, but still I prefer i5 with cooling headroom. Both should be used on flat surfaces when stressed heavily.

Anyone compare the 900p display to the 1080p in terms of colors, viewing angle, and black level?

Not directly, but the color rendition (not sure about formal gamut), contrast and black level on the E6530 we have at work with the 1080p screen are NOTICEABLY better than my persona E6430 with the 14" 900p. I'd assume the 900p 15" on the E6530 is similar.

I can't remember if it was here or another site, but read one new owner returned his E6530 because the 900p screen had pretty bad color and black levels, so nice to hear the 6530's 1080P is better

    Hello guys,

I searched thrugh the forum and have a question. I bought an E-Port II standard, and when i dock my e6530 fan instantly starts running. When i would connect everything without using a dock, fan would be quiet. I saw some issues with previous versions of notebook around web, but not with this particular. Is there anything i can do about that? Plus, the dock itself is pretty sucky compared to Lenovo docks in general but i guess you get what you paid for...

    I've replaced my non-backlit keyboard with a backlit one from E6520. It's a drop-in replacement.
They are available on eBay for about $30. Part number is 0HG3G3

I am configuring an E6530 on dell.com with i7-3740QM CPU. The website is forcing me to select a discrete graphics card. I don't want the extra battery drain or heat of a discrete graphics card. I thought these CPUs had Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated on chip, so why does Dell require me to purchase a discrete graphics card? When I choose the lesser dual core CPUs (i5, i3, 2 core i7) I am not forced to choose discrete graphics.
